🧬 A “perfect” embryo doesn’t always guarantee implantation.

Even when an embryo looks excellent, several factors can influence whether implantation occurs—including embryo development, chromosomal factors, the uterine lining, transfer timing, and individual factors.

An unsuccessful transfer can be difficult, but it doesn’t mean your fertility journey is over. 💜 Understanding the possible factors can help you and your fertility specialist determine the next steps that may be right for you.

✨ Your best embryo didn’t implant. What could be the reason?

Even an excellent-looking embryo cannot guarantee implantation. Several factors may play a role, including embryo development, chromosomal factors, uterine lining, and transfer timing.
One failed transfer does not mean your IVF journey is over. Understanding the possible factors can help you and your fertility specialist decide what to consider next. 💜
At New Direction Fertility Centers, we’re here to help you understand your options and move forward with personalized care.

Ever feel like everyone at your fertility clinic is telling you something different?

The medical assistant says one thing.
The nurse adds something else.
Then your fertility doctor gives you a different answer.

Does that mean your clinic has terrible communication?

Sometimes.

But sometimes you're asking the same question of people with very different training, experience, responsibilities—and even different information.

In this week's Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday, we're going behind the scenes of the fertility clinic.

You'll learn:

• Who actually does what in a fertility clinic
• Why experience and foundational medical knowledge aren't the same thing
• Which questions belong with the front desk, MA, nurse, NP, embryologist or physician
• Why yesterday's answer may legitimately change today
• Why individualized treatment can make communication more complicated
• How to recognize when it really IS poor communication
• Two questions that can save you a lot of frustration

The big takeaway?

The more individualized your question becomes, the more important it is to ask someone with the training to individualize the answer.

Your first beta hCG is 100.

Two days later, it’s 150.

It rose—but it didn’t double. Does that mean the pregnancy is ending?

Not necessarily.

The belief that hCG must double every 48 hours is one of the most persistent myths in early pregnancy. The expected rise depends partly on the starting value, and some IVF pregnancies that resulted in live births had rises much slower than traditional rules suggest.

In this week’s episode of Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday, we discuss:

✅ How quickly hCG really needs to rise
✅ Why “doubling” is not a requirement
✅ What a slow rise may mean
✅ Why even a perfect rise cannot rule out an ectopic pregnancy
✅ When symptoms matter more than the numbers

**When infertility keeps saying “no,” it can start to feel personal.**

You may begin to question your choices, your timing, your body—or even whether you somehow deserve what is happening.

Those thoughts are common, but they are not proof.

In this episode of *Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday*, we explore why infertility can create guilt and self-blame, why treatment outcomes are not judgments about your worth, and how to separate painful feelings from what is actually true.

Infertility is a medical diagnosis.
It is not a verdict on who you are.

After a disappointing IVF retrieval, changing everything can feel like the only reasonable next step.

But is it?

In a study of 801 pairs of consecutive IVF retrievals using the same stimulation approach, the median difference in egg count between cycles was 40%. Mature-egg counts varied too.

That does *not* mean IVF protocols do not matter. They absolutely do.

A poorly matched protocol can hold someone back. But once the protocol is optimized, a better or worse next cycle may reflect biology—not proof that every medication change was the answer.

Think of it like an Olympic runner: the right running shoes matter. Cowboy boots would be a terrible choice. But the shoes do not create the athlete.

In this week’s Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday, I break down:

• When an IVF protocol should change
• Why mature eggs matter more than total eggs
• What a disappointing retrieval can—and cannot—tell us
• Why “doing something” is not always the same as doing something helpful

Most people think the menstrual cycle is about the period.

But the period is really the final report — not the main event.

In this week’s episode of Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday, Dr. Mark Amols explains the menstrual cycle from the o***y’s point of view: how follicles grow, how one follicle becomes dominant, how the uterus responds, and why so many common cycle myths fall apart once you understand the science.

The o***y is not following your app.
It is not following a calendar.
And it is definitely not politely taking turns.
