The Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, arrives this year on Sunday, June 21. It is the beginning of the astronomic summer season and a gateway into the second half of the year. At Summer Solstice, the sun shines on our planet for the most extended amount of time, a precipice, long celebrated, embraced, and appreciated before the season and its cycle shifts and the days will gradually begin to shorten once again.
✨
On a physical level we relish the longest day…the warmth, the illumination, the pure joy of it. On a spiritual side it is a reminder of our own inner light, our own inner fire (agni), and the element of fire that we can cultivate and develop through our yoga practices which create prana (life force energy) and tapas (will and discipline) in our bodies, minds, hearts, and our Manipura (Solar Plexus) Chakra. The energy of the Summer Solstice is yang, expansive, uplifting, warm, and enlightening. Our candlelit yoga flow practice will celebrate the energetic hallmarks of the sun (surya) and summer season as well as neutralize, calm, soothe, and bring balance (samana).
