Behavior rarely happens in isolation.

There’s usually something that happened before it, something your kid is trying to communicate or accomplish, and something that happens afterward.

You don’t have to become a behavior analyst to start noticing those patterns.

Just knowing what to look for can change the way you see the entire situation.

Knowing what you should do and knowing what to do in a real-life parenting situation are two very different things.

You’re never going to have the perfect response every time.

But you can learn to understand why your kid does certain things, so that you have more options when things get hard.
