There’s one buzz worth checking every day.

If you have a fistula or graft, gently place your fingers over your access. That vibration is called the “thrill,” and it helps tell you that blood is flowing.

Make this quick check part of your daily routine:

✓ Feel for your usual thrill
✓ Keep blood pressure cuffs and blood draws off your access arm
✓ Avoid tight clothing, jewelry, or pressure over the access

If the thrill becomes weaker, feels different, or disappears, contact your dialysis care team right away. Do not wait until your next treatment.

Dialysis isn't one-size-fits-all.

When most people think of dialysis, they picture sitting in a dialysis chair at a clinic three times a week. While in-center hemodialysis is the right choice for many people, it is not the only option.

At Aurora Dialysis, we currently offer two treatment options:

In-Center Hemodialysis
Receive dialysis in our clinic with the support of an experienced healthcare team.

Peritoneal Dialysis (PD)
PD is a home dialysis therapy that uses the lining of your abdomen to naturally filter waste and excess fluid. Treatments are often performed overnight while you sleep, giving many patients greater flexibility during the day. Best of all, PD is a needle-free dialysis treatment.

Because PD provides dialysis more continuously, many patients experience fewer large fluid shifts, steadier energy levels, and improved quality of life. Many patients also achieve excellent blood pressure control, phosphorus management, and other laboratory results when PD is the right therapy for their individual needs.

Every patient is unique. The best dialysis treatment depends on your medical condition, lifestyle, and personal goals.

Around 1 out of 7 people have some form of kidney disease. Kidney disease often develops quietly, and many people may not notice symptoms right away.

Some possible warning signs can include: Swelling in the feet or legs
Feeling very tired
Changes in urination
Nausea or poor appetite
Trouble controlling blood pressure

Diabetes and high blood pressure are two of the biggest risk factors for kidney disease.

Regular checkups and lab work can help identify problems earlier and support better long-term health.
