Last week marked four years of the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, a free, confidential resource available 24/7 by call, text, or chat for anyone experiencing emotional distress, a mental health crisis, thoughts of self-harm, or simply needing someone to talk to.

We're proud to see Cone Health Foundation Board Member Jennifer M. Whitney, Director of Counseling & Psychological Services at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, featured in a new NC Department of Health and Human Services PSA highlighting the importance of 988 and encouraging people to seek help when they need it.

Take a moment to watch the PSA and help spread the word. You never know when sharing this message could help someone in need.

Yesterday, Christina Yongue represented Cone Health Foundation at a Career Fair hosted by the Aggie Upward Bound Summer Program. She shared a little about the career opportunity of working in Philanthropy, and what areas the Cone Health Foundation prioritizes.

Students had insightful questions; such as, “What are the pros/cons of your job? What makes you afraid on your job?” It was a lively, authentic discussion!

Other career professionals in the room answered similar questions relating to social workers, foster care management, and directing school sports and athletics. More careers were featured in other classrooms.

“Upward Bound is a federally funded TRIO College Prep Program that supports high-school students in developing the academic skills, confidence, and college-going knowledge needed to graduate from high school and succeed in higher education. During the summer, Upward Bound typically offers an intensive program of academic courses (English, math, science, etc.), workshops on college admissions and financial aid, study skills, mentoring, and enrichment activities designed to strengthen readiness for postsecondary success.” (https://www.ncat.edu/academics/summer-sessions/summer-camps.php)

Last Monday, our staff members, Christina Yongue and Luke Wallace, attended the NC Civic Health Summit, representing the advocacy work Cone Health Foundation continues to support in Greensboro and across North Carolina.

The Summit was organized by the North Carolina Campus Engagement (NCCE), which is a collaborative network of colleges and universities committed to educating students for civic and social responsibility, partnering with communities for positive change, and strengthening democracy.

The day included creativity, conversations, connection, and civic joy as North Carolinians continued to co-create and develop the Civic Health NC initiative. The theme of the summit was "Civic Superheroes United!"

Here are some pictures of the learning that took place and creative ways relationships were encouraged at the summit among organizational representatives in philanthropy, nonprofits, universities, K-12 education systems, and the news media sectors. The summit encouraged us to practice civic joy, while facing harsh realities of lament, outrage, and exhaustion. What can you do to spread 'civic joy' in our communities in Greensboro and beyond?

Note: Luke won the “Do you Know Your United States Civics?” by answering the most challenge questions during the Summit!
