What is Operator Syndrome?

It is the predictable, connected set of injuries a special operations career leaves behind. Not one problem, one condition with many parts.

Two decades at the tip of the spear means repeated blast exposure, relentless stress, broken sleep, and physical overload. Over time that wear breaks down how the brain and body regulate themselves. The result shows up together: blast-related brain injury, hormonal and sleep disruption, chronic pain, memory and focus loss, depression, hypervigilance, and strain on marriage and family.

Here is what gets missed. This is bigger than post-traumatic stress. Treat only the psychological piece and most of the injury goes untouched. And it often does not peak during service. It surfaces after the uniform comes off, when the mission that held everything together is gone.

That is the gap Valkyrie Guard exists to close: funding and coordinating specialty care that treats the whole, connected injury, for the operator and the family, backed by real research.

Sometimes accidents have their own sense of irony. In this case, at a gun range, you would be inclined to conclude that a life-threatening bleed would have been caused by a fi***rm - NOT a simple slip with a knife while cutting zip ties. Thankfully for Keith Hendrickson , his buddy Kyle Rittenhouse came prepared and was able to and saved the day!
