Through our two lines of service – Home Health and Hospice – the VNA of Hanover & Spring Grove is able to provide a continuum of quality, compassionate care for our neighbors in southwestern York County and all of Adams County during their times of need. VNA Home Health is for individuals who need to recover and regain their strength after an illness, surgery, accident, or hospitalization. Our tea

m of nurses and physical, occupational and speech therapists, as well as social workers and home health aides help people get back to, or surpass, their previous level of functioning. VNA Hospice provides care and support for terminally ill individuals and their families or caregivers at the end of life. Our team of highly trained nurses, social workers, spiritual counselors, hospice aides, therapists, volunteers, physicians, and bereavement counselors provide services in both personal homes and extended care facilities. The VNA Hospice team provides sensitivity and compassion with expert knowledge and skill.

On Friday, June 12, the VNA of Hanover & Spring Grove proudly celebrated the dedication of the Florence M. deHaven Health & Wellness Center.

Florence M. deHaven, later Florence deHaven Stick, became the VNA’s first nurse in 1914, helping lay the foundation for more than a century of compassionate, community-based care. Her legacy of service continues to inspire our mission today.

This dedication was made especially meaningful through the extraordinary generosity of Wesley D. Stick, Jr., Florence’s grandson, whose transformational gift honors his grandmother’s memory while helping strengthen the future of care in our community.

We were honored to be joined by members of the Stick family, community leaders, elected officials, healthcare partners, VNA board members, volunteers, staff, and friends for this special celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this day so meaningful, including our building partners at Phoenix Physical Therapy, the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce, the Adams County / Gettysburg Chamber of Commerce, and our many community supporters.

Special thanks as well to the local partners who helped make the day so special: Image360 Hanover for the beautiful building signage and memorial plaque, Minuteman Press for the event programs and easel portraits, and Warehouse Gourmet for the refreshments.

Florence’s legacy lives on through the work we continue to do every day for individuals and families across Adams & York Counties.

We know there has been recent news coverage raising concerns about hospice care across the country. While those stories can be concerning, we want our community to feel confident in the care provided right here at home.

At the Visiting Nurse Association of Hanover & Spring Grove, our hospice program is one you can trust.

For years, we have proudly earned 5‑Star Quality Ratings from Medicare, the highest ranking a hospice agency can receive, and we are the only regional hospice provider to consistently achieve this distinction, reflecting our commitment to delivering exceptional, compassionate care to every patient and family we serve.

We are also a locally based, nonprofit organization, providing care in this community since 1909, with hospice services established in 1980. Most recently, we successfully passed Pennsylvania Department of Health inspections with zero deficiencies for both our hospice and home health programs.

And most importantly, our care is delivered by local professionals...nurses, home health aides, social workers, and volunteers...who are your neighbors, caring for neighbors.

Today was one of those days that reminds us just how special our team truly is!

As we continue celebrating Nurses Week, we had the chance to recognize not only our incredible nursing team, but every single member of our staff who shows up each day committed to caring for others.

This morning, our leadership team rolled in early to do what we do best...bring people together over great food and coffee. Pancakes, sausage, and a full coffee bar helped kick things off, but the real highlight was what came next…

We officially introduced our new Patient & Staff Safety Program, a meaningful initiative developed largely by our own Patient & Organizational Safety Committee clinical team. This program reflects who we are:
✔ We speak up
✔ We support one another
✔ We learn and grow together
✔ We put safety at the center of everything we do

Because here, we’re not just coworkers, we’re a team committed to creating a safer, stronger future for everyone we serve.

💙 Our Volunteers: the VNA’s Secret Weapon 💙

Last week was National Volunteer Week, and we had the pleasure of gathering with some of the incredible volunteers who help make the Visiting Nurse Association everything it is today, including recognizing several milestone years of service at our volunteer meeting on Thursday.

While not all of our 40+ volunteers could be pictured here, every single one of them plays a vital role in supporting our mission. Truly they are our secret weapon!

From patient support and family respite, to tuck‑in calls before each weekend, veteran support, music and pet therapy, administrative help, and always a welcoming smile at the VNA front desk, our volunteers extend compassion, comfort, and connection every single day.

They are a huge part of what has sustained the VNA for over 100 years, helping us deliver care with heart wherever someone calls home.
