Donald (“Don”) Ervin Weiss, affectionately known and loved as “Coach Weiss,” went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the age of 79. On July 8, 1970, Don married the love of his life, Judy, and together they built a marriage that spanned 56 wonderful years. They were blessed with two children, Tyler and Jennifer “Jenny,” and seven grandchildren. Don was a member of First Baptist Church in Sweetwater, where he served as a deacon. He proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Suribachi and the U.S.S. Elokomin. Don graduated from Tellico Plains High School and was later inducted into the Tellico Plains High School Athletic Hall of Fame for basketball. He attended Hiwassee College, where he was likewise inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame for his accomplishments on the basketball court. He continued his education at East Tennessee State University, earning both a Bachelor of Science degree and a master’s degree. In 2019, Don became a member of the Monroe County School Board, where he continued his lifelong commitment to serving students, families, and the community.
For more than 40 years, Coach Weiss spent his life devoted to what he loved, teaching and coaching. His success on the court and ball field was remarkable. Ronald (Ron) Eugene Wolf II of Sweetwater TN, formally of Vermontville MI, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Saturday August 8th, 2026after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ron was married to the love of his life Lisa for 39yrs. Together they raised their three beautiful daughters, took numerous trips and spent all their free time with their grandkids- being papaw was Ron’s favorite role.
Ron retired from Denso after 11 years where he made many friends and gained several work wives. In his spare time Ron enjoyed camping, watching football, cooking anything on his smoker, relaxing with a coke and whiskey and spending time with his family.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Bonnie Shaw. He is survived by his wife Lisa. Children Jessica (Gary) Yates, Angie (Nathan) Wolf, Rachel (Tyler) Marchesani, and the favorite child Samantha (Chase) Brock. Grandchildren Adalynn, Sophia, Wyatt, Kenzie, Kaylee, Jaxson, Raelyn, Landon, Paxton, Levi, and Maddox. Siblings Adam (Jessie) Shaw, Dee Waddle, and Amy Ambler. Many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Services for Ron will be Thursday August 13th, 2026, at the Kyker Funeral Homes in Sweetwater. Visitation will be held from 1-2pm, the service will begin at 2pm in Kyker’s Chapel with Rev. Billie Ruth (Phillips) Gillis, age 95, peacefully passed away Saturday, August 8, 2026, at The Roane Medical Center surrounded by family. She was born May 31, 1931, to William (Bill) and Pauline (Polly) Phillips. She was a loving and caring mother. Billie Ruth resided in Harriman, Tennessee where she started her career in 1957 with Sears Roebuck and Company. In 1967 the family moved to Lake Wales, Florida where she continued to work for Sears and was a devoted member of First Baptist of Lake Wales. In 1971, moving to Sarasota, Florida, continuing to work with Sears until she retired in 1992. While in Sarasota she was a devoted member of the Southside Baptist Church. While in Sarasota she and Bob purchased a timeshare on Siesta Key, where every summer she would take the 6 grandchildren and spent a week at the beach for almost 20 years. In 1994 she moved back to Harriman, Tennessee. She was a member of South Harriman Baptist Church and worked tirelessly with the Children’s Ministry touching many young children’s lives. She was also a member of the churches Young at Heart Group enjoying the fun-filled and often quite comical trips that they had taken. She truly loved her extended church family and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband Bob Gillis, son Duane, daughter Nancy, parents Bill and Pauline, brothers Cotton and JT Phillips, sisters Dorbra Lee and Cheryl Arnold.

Bobby Lee Nichols, age 45, of Sweetwater, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. He was a member of the Old Sweetwater Baptist Church in Sweetwater. He was a graduate of Sweetwater High School class of 1999. He loved to fish and shoot skeets. Bobby loved swimming with his son Will in his past time. His favorite sayings were “What a man”, and “O yeah”. Preceded in death by his father: Douglas Nichols.

Survivors include his son: William Cody “Will” Nichols. Mother and step-dad: Donna and Gary Kyker, all of Sweetwater, brother and sister-in-law: Ronald and Tammy Nichols, of Athens, sister and brother-in-law: Melissa and Dallas Presley, of Sweetwater. Richard “Rick” Bettis, age 71, of Signal Mountain, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. He was born and raised in Sweetwater, Tennessee and spent his later years in Yarmouth Port, MA. He had a great love for tennis and participated with his team in winning the USTA 4.0 National Championship in 2004. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sweetwater. He proudly served on the board of Sweetwater Hospital Association for over 40 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Robert S. and Katherine Bettis; in-laws: Fred and Frances Edgemon; brother: Robert Bettis; nephews: Curt Wallace; brothers-in-law; Fred Edgemon Jr. and John Edgemon

Willis Anthony Hall age 83, of Kingston, TN, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at his home.
Willis was of the Baptist faith. He worked at Y-12 for 26 years and was a business agent for Local 818 for three terms where he had many friends.

Preceded in death by parents; Anthony Hall and Rosalee Myers, brother; Harold Hall, sisters; Yvonne Trew and Dorothy Stone.

Mary Elizabeth Renfro Isham age 86, of Chattanooga passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy E. Isham Sr. and son; Jimmy Earl Isham, parents; Floyd and Charlotte Hamilton Renfro; brother, Robert “Buddy” L. Renfro.

Survived by her son and daughter-in-law; Bill and Linette Isham, grandson; Joshua and Katie Isham, sister-in-law; Mary Renfro Cantrell. Several nieces and nephews.
