What an incredible pre-conference! 💖

Last month, The Children’s Center was honored to serve as sponsor and presenter for the 2026 Mississippi Health Disparities Conference, connecting with passionate researchers, healthcare professionals, students, advocates, and community partners who are working to build healthier futures for Mississippi’s children and families.

A special thank you to our conference hosts and USM partners for the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful event. We were especially grateful for the wonderful engagement from those in attendance, and the positive feedback we received meant the world to our team! We even gained a few new Children’s Center models, like the gentleman in the last photo. ☺️🧢🦅

Thank you to everyone who joined us, asked questions, shared ideas, and helped make the day such a success. We can’t wait to continue the conversation!

Answering the call of "No Empty Chairs" means preparing the behavioral health workforce of tomorrow. Every filled clinical seat represents a future clinician gaining the skills, experience and mentorship needed to make a difference. We are proud to be part of that journey.

The CBH is so proud of our student clinicians. We cannot wait to see how far they go!

In a highly competitive national process involving more than 4,000 psychology students seeking pre-doctoral internships, 100% of Southern Miss applicants were successfully matched!

This achievement reflects the strong academic and clinical foundation built at Southern Miss, supported by faculty mentorship and hands-on training through the Center for Behavioral Health, the University's on-campus training clinic.

These internships represent the final stage of doctoral training and place students in settings such as Veterans Affairs facilities, counseling centers, public school districts, community mental health centers, and private practices.

Most people know the CBH for the services that we provide to our community, but training future behavioral health professionals is also a central part of our mission.
We were honored to be featured in The Talon, highlighting how our center serves as a hands-on training site for students at Southern Miss. Through supervised clinical experiences, our students gain valuable skills while helping expand access to quality behavioral health services.
Over the next couple weeks, we will be sharing more about our student experiences and training opportunities that help make our center a unique part our university and community.

Training the next generation of future clinicians is a vital part of our mission at the CBH. We are proud to provide students with meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that prepare them for success in the field.

"Students are training in a real world setting... They see the full scope of what it is like day to day as clinicians," said Dr. Kristy McRaney, director of the Center for Behavioral Health, in an interview for The Talon.
