Helen Peterson, 55, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. She was born on November 26, 1970, to Donald and Sharon (nèe Davis) Peterson in Los Angeles, California.

Helen graduated from Western Illinois University with her teaching degree and later taught at Springfield High School as well as Taylorville High School. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She was also a member of the Living Faith Baptist Church in Sherman, Illinois. She was passionate about her genealogy and learning about her family history. She liked to watch movies and the show Star Trek. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family.

Helen is survived by a niece, Jordyn (David) Cornell; three nephews, Alyx Peterson, Jackson Peterson and Spencer (Arin) Tucker; a great niece, Hazel Phillips; a great nephew, Sawyer Cornell; a sister-in-law, Tammy (Rudi) Reid; a close friend, Sue Fowler; and her beloved cat, Dash. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bill Peterson; two infant siblings; and a great niece, Ava Cornell.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, beginning at 11:00 am at the Living Faith Baptist Church, 7575 W. Outer Rd, Sherman, Illinois 62684. A meal and continued fellowship will follow at the church.

Mary Louise Goetz, 95, of Chandlerville, passed away at 3:50 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Memorial Hospital in Springfield. She was born on March 25, 1931 in Cass County to Jewel and Lucille Reed. She married John Goetz on April 9, 1983 in Sterling, Colorado.
Mary is survived by her son, Timothy (Ann) Chilton of Arenzville; daughters, Glenda (George) Cox of Chandlerville, Jane McCafferty of Pleasant Plains, and Robin (Jim) Watkins of Chandlerville; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Pat Williams; brother, Jim Reed; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Dan McCafferty; and brother-in-law, Earl Williams.
Mary was a member of Chandlerville Christian Church. She liked to travel in her younger years and loved to go shopping. Most of all, she liked spending time with her family.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Brian Eilers will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Chandlerville Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in Mary’s name to Cass County Food Pantry or Chandlerville Cemetery. Online condolences can be left for her family at www.hurleyfh.com.

Jo Anna Zellers, 90, of Petersburg, passed away on August 22, 2026 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home.

Jo Anna was born July 6, 1936 in Neva, Tennessee, the daughter of Rader Duggar. Jo Anna retired from Memorial after 25 years of service. She married Arthur Zellers in 1991. Jo Anna enjoyed gardening, fishing and both feeding and watching birds in her later years.

Jo Anna is survived by her children: Evelyn (Tom) Guinan of Petersburg, Debbie White of Petersburg, George (Tammy) Dyer of Athens, and Wanda Dyas of Cantrall. 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband: Arthur Zellers, Sister: Joyce Witt, Brother: Tom Guy, grandson: Joshua Dyer, son-in-law: David White, and brother-in-law: Ed Witt.

Per Jo Anna’s wishes cremation rites are to be accorded with no services at this time.

Marilyn Joann Baum, 88, of Petersburg, Illinois, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg. She was born on October 19, 1937, to Powell and Helen (nèe Satorius) Ruppel on the family farm in Cass County five miles southwest of Oakford, Illinois. She married John Thomas Baum on December 3, 1978, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Petersburg. He preceded her in death in January of 2005.

In her working years, Marilyn worked for the State of Illinois in the Data Processing Department. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Petersburg where she taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of the Ladies’ Aid group.

Marilyn is survived by her godsons, Steven Ogden, Roger Ruppel and Kevin Ruppel; a brother-in-law, George (wife Colleen) Baum; a sister-in-law, Mabel Ruppel; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings, Barbara Ogden and David Ruppel.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Petersburg from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Jeffrey Gross officiating. Burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery following the service.

Arliet Jean Huber, 94, of Springfield, formerly of Easton, passed away at 4:52 p.m., on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Concordia Village, in Springfield, Illinois She was born May 21, 1932, in Topeka, Illinois, to Clarence and Alvena (Horstman) Armbrust. She married Arvin Huber on June 6, 1954. He preceded her in death on August 19, 1957. She later married Dale Hubbard and divorced in 1976.

Mrs. Huber is survived by one daughter, Brenda (Mike) McCuskey, of Springfield; grandson: Ryan (Brittany) McCuskey, of Colombus, Ohio; one sister-in-law; one niece; and one nephew; as well as her granddog Daisy, her faithful companion to the end. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Robert “Bobby” Huber, brother, sister-in-law, and a brother-in-law.

Mrs. Huber was a member of the Easton United Methodist Church, and later enjoyed attending services at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, in Havana. She worked at the Havana airport, Easton grocery store, and later the restaurant in Easton, which she purchased in October 1970. The cafe was her life for 36 years until her retirement in 2006. It was a gathering spot for men who sat at the round table, some of whom had keys, because Jean didn’t open up early enough. She would always bake and give away sweet treats, even though the objective of her business was to sell food.
In March 2000, Jean was one of 150 recipients of the Illinois Woman of Achievement Award who were honored for demonstrating excellence...
