Roger Cecil, 82, of Hazard, KY passed away at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center on June 20, 2026, after a short stay at ARH for congestive heart failure.
Roger was born on April 12, 1944, to Hazel Bowling Cecil and Elmer Cecil in Hazard, Ky. While in high school, he met and married Katherine Alcorn. After graduating from Hazard High School in 1964, he went on to attend classes at the Hazard community college and later became Chief Draftsmen at H.A. Spalding Engineers. Roger and Katy had three children, Elizabeth, Roger, and Heather. They were divorced in 1980. Roger met Carol Lewis in 2002. They were lovingly committed since that time.
Roger was an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoorsman. He loved family, nature, wildlife, and his cats and dogs. He was happiest in a deer stand, his garden, casting a line, or being with family. He knew the land better than most people could ever begin to understand. His love and knowledge will be missed.
Roger was preceded in death by his mother and father, his younger brother Wallace, and his baby sister Deborah Kay Brewer, who passed away recently on June 6, 2026. He is survived by his lady, Carol Lewis, his brother-in-law, HB, his children, Elizabeth Cecil (Al), Roger Wayne Cecil (Alicia), and Heather Nicole Turner (Sean). His grandchildren Julia Durham, Josh Durham (Josette), Jacob Cecil, Grace Cecil, Sam Cecil, Katie Rameriz (Pro), and Abigail Turner and great grandchildren, Taylor Durham, Jakobe Scott, and soon to be Anna-Maria Ramirez. Additionally, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, neighbors, and friends.
