💙 Helping Our Patients Stay on Track

We’re incredibly grateful to the Women of St. Francis for their generous grant supporting VIM’s Diabetes Clinic with a new HemoCue Glucose system. This important equipment allows our care team to quickly measure blood sugar and provide timely information that helps patients better manage their diabetes.

It’s a small piece of equipment with a big purpose: helping our patients take control of their health and build healthier futures.

VIM has an open position for a full-time director of development, which is a leadership role and critical to advancing the organization’s mission by securing sustainable financial support through diversified revenue streams, including major gifts, annual giving, grants, corporate partnerships, and special events.

Since 1993, VIM has provided free, high-quality and comprehensive care to those who live or work on Hilton Head and Daufuskie Islands and lack access to insurance or otherwise cannot afford medical care. With 26 medical specialties, five disease management clinics, a dental clinic, and wellness center, our care is made possible by 550 dedicated volunteers.

When Erica came to VIM, severe dental problems had taken more than her smile; they had taken away her confidence and her ability to sing in her church choir. Because of her deep faith, music was an important part of her life, and being unable to sing alongside her church family was heartbreaking.

After listening to Erica’s concerns, our dental team developed a treatment plan that included fillings, extractions, and, ultimately, upper and lower partial dentures. The process took more than a year, and Erica never missed an appointment. Through every step, she remained hopeful.

The day she received her new partials, everything changed.

Today, Erica is back singing with her church family—a beautiful reminder that healthcare is about so much more than treating patients. It's about restoring confidence, dignity, and hope.

A special thank you to Dr. Hirsh, Dr. Atkins, Miriam Arvelo, Esmeraldo Preciadl, and the entire VIM dental staff for their expertise and remarkable outcome!

Stories like Erica's are possible because of the compassion of our volunteers and the generosity of those who support VIM's mission.

Volunteers in Medicine Hilton Head Island will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

We wish our patients, volunteers, staff, donors, and the entire community a safe, happy, and meaningful Fourth of July weekend as we celebrate the freedoms we share.
