Hello everyone!
I hope you have all been enjoying the last few weeks of summer. Just yesterday we put all the West Ottawa and Kentwood school calendar dates of importance onto our calendar. I thought that was “so nice” that the districts were sending this out so early to get ready for that FIRST DAY back to school.

Then I looked at the calendar.

Today is AUGUST 13th.
Kentwood’s first day is AUGUST 24th.
West Ottawa’s first day is AUGUST 27th.

Wait a minute…. there is only 10 more days of SUMMER VACATION? (or 13 for W.O.)
How did that happen?!

I know - When you have had your own life jump up and surprise you with a surprise medical situation, that leaves you stranded and your leg elevated for several weeks, you loose all track of time. We just reached the 8 week milestone! Now I get to practice standing with the boot on, followed by standing with the boot off. Increasing the time from 1 minute up to 5 minutes, wash rinse repeat. The next goal is to start to take steps one at a time up to 5 with the boot on, then the boot off, wash rinse repeat. When that is complete, it will be time for my next set of total xrays from the tips of my toes to my knee. And if I have been a good girl, which I have, I will know that all my broken bones are now starting to “knit” themselves together and I will get the next set of instructions to recovery.

So saying all of that… Our next meeting will be on September 12, at Herrick Northside Branch. Starting at 11:00am - 1:00pm. It will be good to be able to get back to my desk and start catching up on the past 3 months of work after watching the ceiling fan spin, catching up on some series on TV and books and magazines, and trying to get more mobile and independent.

So enjoy your weekend - I will miss you all - and I’ll look forward to seeing you in September in person. October starts our ZOOM meetings - just in time for the weather change and the new routine.

And a special THANK YOU to all of you who have called, and emailed, and sent cards, and ideas for library online activities, and series on other stations, and loaning of OUTLANDER dvd’s. It sure beats coming across the REAL HOUSEWIVES and other brain numbing ick on TV. I told Jim to watch out for his tools, I have seen every THIS OLD HOUSE show and can now fix anything. He rolled his eyes, slapped his forehead, and said, “Sure, let's start by trying to stand first.” Another bubble popped by the human form of the bluebird of happiness.

Happy Hunting!
Megan (and Nurse Jim)

Hello Everyone, Jim here….

Question: What do you get when you have 2 grandsons who came to visit for the day, who like to do nothing more than help Papa outside, and then snuggle with Nana inside, bringing with them runny noses, croupy cough, and oops I forgot to cover my mouth when I sneezed moments?

Answer: A Nana who now has a runny nose, croupy cough, sneezing, and absolutely no voice at all, and just wants hot tea and her blanket.

Conclusion: We need to cancel Saturday, April 11th GSG meeting. Remember there is no meeting in May due to Tulip Time, but we will be meeting in person at the Herrick North Branch on June 13 at 11:00am!

Sorry to disappoint you but it is the best thing to do for her.
I’m sure she will be reaching out once she is back on her feet again, and we hope in just a few short days! Her throat is so sore, we don’t want her to get worse.

We hope everyone had a nice Easter weekend, and are enjoying the snowless springtime stuff.

Jim aka Mr. Megan

Shoutout for March GSG Meeting.....

Hello Everyone!

It is that time of year when we all feel like contestants on the Wheel of Fortune. That would be the weather wheel of fortune or as of late, misfortune! For instance… you know you are a contestant when your daughter (or son) live close to Grand Rapids, Kent County. And their phone “alert” siren goes off stating that “Holland” is having a weather alert.

Tuesday was that kind of day…

“Hello? Hey mom, is everything ok over there, got an alert about high winds”. Yes, so far so good. Ok, just checking. 2 hours later, “Hello? Hey mom, is everything ok over there, got another alert about thunderstorms over there”. Yes, so far so good. 1 hour later, “Hello? Hey mom, is everything ok over there? I just got another alert for flooding, high winds and more severe thunderstorms”.. Yep, you heard right.. and so far, so good. Ok, I’m heading to bed… if you need anything, give us a call.

The next morning… Hey mom, You’re not going to believe this.. but I just got another alert that the roads are flooding, and it is snowing like crazy here, you can’t see Skip and Pat’s house across the street… so we aren’t going to come over today…. No problem, we got water over our roads too. Stay home and stay safe.

So today, “Hello? Hey mom, the sun is out, there is no wind, nothing falling from the sky and I”m sick of being hunkered down, wanna meet for lunch? Yes! See you in 45!

We laughed at how it felt like someone was spinning that Wheel of Fortune and not winning a darn thing, all day and night long.

I know almost all of you are “done” with winter and the weather roller coaster.

So Saturday is our next GSG Program!

Documents of the Deceased - Searching for papers of yesterday and planning for tomorrow

Last month I didn’t have my handouts to send in a timely manner, so I am sending them this month - in a separate email.

There will also be the handouts for this program included all in a separate email.

So enjoy this sunny day, and I will look forward to seeing you on Saturday!
Someone please spin the weather wheel so we can get another day like today! (and warmer!)

Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone!

Welcome to another month of GSG! The weather has given us a break, and sun is shining today, and we are ready for yet another morning of laughing and learning!

Our theme this year is “Look How Far We Have Come”…. and keeping with that, we are going to help you get out of an old habit and start a new one!

We will have an updated opening slideshow (which we always do!), and a program with the most unusual title “So What?” You are going to have to join us to find out! Be sure you grab a notepad and writing utensil. There is NO HANDOUT for this presentation this month, but you will want to take a few notes. Sometimes writing things down helps more than having a handout, at least in my old age!

I will remind you that the first day of Spring is March 20th, which is now only 34 days away!

We will start at 11:00am so log in about 5 minutes prior to that.

I will be sending out the Zoom link shortly, so keep an eye out for that. Thanks for taking a bit of time out of your day to join us. We greatly appreciate it.

I will also be sending out an email or two on updating my spreadsheets - the new year housekeeping I need to do, so I would appreciate you taking a bit of time to review what I send and make and additions or subtractions to my files.

See you TOMORROW!!
HAPPY HEARTS DAY!!
