Once you realize spiritual warfare is real, you start paying attention to things you used to think were harmless.
And I’m not just talking about the obvious things.
I’m talking about the music you listen to.
The shows you watch.
The conversations you entertain.
The people you allow to influence you.
The things you scroll past for hours.
The words you speak over yourself.
The things you allow into your home.
Because not everything that is normal in this world is beneficial for your walk with God.
And the closer you grow to Jesus, the more you start noticing it.
Things you used to laugh at don’t seem funny anymore.
Music you used to love doesn’t sit right with your spirit.
Conversations you used to participate in become conversations you no longer want to be part of.
You start recognizing how easily comparison, jealousy, bitterness, lust, anger, and fear can take root when you’re not guarding your heart.
And suddenly, you understand why Scripture tells us to be careful about what we allow to influence us.
Not everything is a spiritual attack, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t in a spiritual battle.
The enemy doesn’t need you to completely turn your back on God to distract you.
Sometimes all it takes is keeping you so busy, so entertained, so overwhelmed, and so distracted that spending time with Jesus becomes the last thing on your list.
And that’s why discernment matters.
That’s why prayer matters.
That’s why reading your Bible matters.
That’s why putting on the full armor of God isn’t just something we read about in Ephesians 6. It’s something we’re called to live out.
And no, this doesn’t mean living in fear of everything around you.
It means being intentional about what you feed your mind, what you allow into your heart, and what you give your attention to.
Because what you continually consume can shape what you think, what you believe, and eventually how you live.
And here’s something else I’ve learned.
Just because God convicts YOU about something doesn’t mean everyone else will have that same conviction.
Your job isn’t to condemn everyone around you.
Your job is to be obedient to what God is showing you.
The closer I get to Jesus, the less I want to make room for things that pull my heart away from Him.
Not because I think I’m better than anyone.
Not because I’m trying to earn my salvation.
But because when you’ve experienced the peace of God, you become more careful about what you allow to disturb it.
Protect your peace. Guard your heart. Stay rooted in the Word. And never underestimate the importance of putting on the armor of God daily. 🤍
