Nick Finnegan Counseling Center

Nick Finnegan Counseling Center A unique, non-profit providing personalized service and excellence in counseling at affordable rates

Established in 2008, the organization was renamed Nick Finnegan Counseling Center in 2011 as a way for Bill and Susan Finnegan to honor their late son, Nick, who passed away several years earlier in an automobile accident. Support from family, friends and counselors helped the Finnegans grieve their loss. Because of this support, they found faith to move forward as a family, and in turn, wanted to

give similar support to others. Along with the Finnegan family, NFCC raises awareness about and provides cost-effective mental health resources to Houstonians.

The final weeks of summer often bring mixed emotions.

For some, it’s excitement. For others, it’s the stress of changing routines, back-to-school preparations, or uncertainty about what lies ahead.

Whatever this season looks like for you, know that you don’t have to carry it alone.

At Nick Finnegan Counseling Center, we’re committed to being a soft place to land—a place where individuals, couples, and families can find support, healing, and hope.

Because of the generosity of our community through the Because Counseling Matters Annual Fund, compassionate, affordable counseling remains within reach for those who need it.

As one season gives way to the next, thank you for helping create a community where everyone has a place to turn.

Healing happens here. And it happens because of you. 🩵

Most people think anxiety is obvious.

They picture panic attacks.

But anxiety is often much quieter than that.

It can look like overthinking every decision.
➡️ Apologizing when you’ve done nothing wrong.
➡️ Feeling responsible for everyone else’s emotions.
➡️ Needing reassurance before you trust yourself.
➡️ Always staying busy because slowing down feels uncomfortable.

For many people, these patterns become so familiar that they stop seeing them as anxiety and start believing, “This is just who I am.”

The good news? You are not your coping strategies.

When you begin to understand what your nervous system has been trying to protect you from, you can respond with curiosity instead of criticism.

Which sign surprised you the most? Let us know in the comments. ⬇️

What if mental health support didn’t only happen after a child was struggling?

This school year, we’re excited to begin offering monthly mental health tabling events for elementary schools.

Each month focuses on a different social-emotional topic through simple, engaging, hands-on activities that help kids practice skills they can actually use.

🍃 September: Su***de Prevention & Trusted Adults
💜 October: Bullying Prevention & Healthy Friendship Skills
🍂 November: Gratitude & Emotional Well-Being

Students might write down coping tools for tough days, identify the safe adults in their lives, build a school-wide compliment chain, or add a leaf to a gratitude tree.

The goal isn’t to have one big conversation.

The goal is to create lots of small ones.

Because when mental health becomes part of everyday school life, it becomes easier for children to ask for help, support one another, and know they’re never alone.

If you’re a school counselor, administrator, PTO, or educator looking to bring meaningful, developmentally appropriate mental health programming to your campus, we’d love to partner with you.

📩 Reach out to learn more or schedule a tabling event for your school year.
