Ever wondered what dry needling actually looks like? We get questions about this all the time, so Dr Bradshaw filmed it on herself!
What you’re seeing is a thin monofilament needle going into the muscle belly. No injection. No medication. Just mechanical input directly into the tissue.
A few things to notice:
→ No sharp pain. The sensation is more of a deep ache or pressure. That’s normal.
→ When you see the muscle twitch or relax, that’s the trigger point releasing.
→ The “pistoning” at the end creates controlled microtrauma. that’s what signals your body to send healing resources to that spot.
This is especially powerful for those stubborn muscles that just won’t let go. Those are the muscles that you stretch, massage, and adjust fine for a day or two, but keep coming back tight. Dry needling gets into the tissue at a level those approaches can’t reach.
We use this at Lone Star Chiropractic for chronic tightness that doesn’t fully respond to adjustments alone and it pairs beautifully with the adjustment for faster, more lasting results.
