Friday’s trip to Ossining may not have gone exactly as planned, but it turned into a memorable day for our residents.

Independent Hose Co. #6 welcomed our group with pizza and wings before the parade. During the visit, William Roenhagen was presented with a sash and boutonniere in recognition of his incredible 50 years as a member of Independent Hose Co. #6.

Unfortunately, severe thunderstorms forced the parade to be cancelled. But the evening continued with dinner at Ossining’s headquarters, where the department showed our residents tremendous hospitality — even while responding to a four-alarm fire.

A big thank-you to our friends at Independent Hose Co. #6 and Ossining Fire Department for welcoming our residents and making the day special. That fire service family spirit means so much.

Summer fun continues all month long at the Firefighters Home with a full calendar of activities designed to bring members together!

August includes live entertainment, therapy dog visits, wellness programs, creative crafts, games, special outings and community celebrations, along with signature events like the Hudson Mohawk Volunteer Fire Association Steak Roast and the annual Luau Party. From morning coffee hours to evening movies and bingo, every week offers new ways to stay active, socialize and make lasting memories.

It was an action-packed weekend at the Home!

On Friday, the Coldsperry Jr. Firefighter Academy stopped by to drop off handmade cards for our members. It was such a nice treat!

Then, Orange County Volunteer Firemen's Association (OCVFA) visited with a generous monetary donation, along with puzzles and no-pill fleece lap and shoulder blankets for our members. We're so appreciative!

And rounding out the weekend, the Red Knights donated brand-new, handmade co****le boards while at the Home for their annual run.

Our current and past Board of Trustees, along with FASNY Presidents, gathered this past weekend for the Annual Bob Darling Picnic. A great time was had by all!

What a great weekend at the Central Old Timers/Newcomers BBQ!

Members and staff from the FASNY Firefighters Home enjoyed a wonderful day at the Aurelius Volunteer Fire Department East Station on July 10. Also pictured is FASNY Second Vice President Ken Holmes, who was recognized as this year’s Central Old Timer.

A special thank you to Administrator Degan and the Home staff for making this outing possible. Opportunities like these allow our residents to reconnect with longtime friends and fellow firefighters, and we are grateful to everyone who helps make these meaningful experiences happen.

The FASNY Firefighters Home is partnering with Lucid Diagnostics to offer a preventive esophageal cancer screening on Wednesday, July 15, 12-8pm.

Esophageal cancer often has no symptoms until it reaches an advanced stage. Screening can detect Barrett's Esophagus, a precancerous condition that can be treated before cancer develops.

This is not an annual screening. For most people, a one-time screening is recommended.

Active firefighters and retirees are encouraged to see if they qualify.

After more than five years of dedicated service, we congratulate Home Administrator Keith Henchey on his retirement from the FASNY Firefighter's Home.

Keith joined us on May 16, 2020, during one of the most challenging times in healthcare history. His 30 years of experience, leadership, and commitment helped guide our Home through the COVID-19 pandemic, contributing to an incredible milestone: zero COVID-related deaths among our residents.

Beyond his leadership during a historic moment, Keith helped build a strong leadership team, supported staff growth, and strengthened the connection between our Home and the firefighter community we proudly serve.

We are grateful for Keith’s years of service, his dedication to our residents, and the compassion he brought to the Home every day. We wish Keith, his wife Catherine, their three sons, and five grandchildren all the best in this next chapter.

Thank you, Keith, for everything you have done for the FASNY Firefighter’s Home. We’ll miss your leadership, your golf stories, and of course, your unforgettable appearances as Santa Claus (even after that memorable showdown with the Grinch!).
