Today is International Self-Care Day 💙

It's celebrated every year on July 24th because taking care of yourself should be happening 24/7!! Self-care is not selfish, it is self-preservation. It is choosing to honor your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being, even when life feels demanding.

Self-care looks like setting boundaries, asking for help, resting without guilt, saying "no" when needed, going to therapy, exercising, eating healthier, getting adequate sleep, taking your medication, praying, journaling, or simply giving yourself permission to pause.

When you care for yourself, you are not just simply surviving. You are intentionally creating the capacity you need to show up more fully for the people and things you love.

Today, ask yourself: What do I need today, and how can I give myself permission to receive it? Comment below...

Your mental health matters. Take care of you. 💚

Therapist's Nugget of the Day: Practice a Little More Mindfulness...But With a Twist!

I read a book about 8 years ago, The Essential Guide to Prayer by Dutch Sheets, and something jumped out at me that resonated with what I teach in therapy related to our cognition. It's biblical in nature but does have some practicality behind it.

Something I often tell my clients is that they will interprete what someone says or does by how it makes them feel. How they feel is often a direct reflection of what they think about themselves or the world around them. This book broke it down a little further and I thought the explanation was spot on. We do not just hear what people say...we hear it through what we already believe! Our minds are shaped by past experiences, repeated messages, and deeply rooted beliefs. These internal filters do not just influence what we think but why we think it.

Understanding how our minds work can help us practice more mindfulness in our interactions with others. If you are ever offended by what someone says or does, check yourself first and make sure you are not misinterpreting the message based on how you feel or what you think. So when something someone says stings...pause before reacting.

Ask yourself:
❓️“Am I responding to what was actually said...or how it made me feel?” Because sometimes, we are not reacting to them...we are reacting to a story our mind filled in!

💙 Mindfulness looks like slowing down long enough to check the filter.
🤍 Growth looks like asking for clarity instead of assuming intent.

Next time you feel triggered, try this instead:

💚 “Hey, can you help me understand what you meant by that?”

Clarity over assumptions always!

Therapist's Nugget of the Day: But Did You Say No...

You did not ask to be the rescuer...but did you ever say no to being the rescuer?!?

That question stopped my client in their tracks last week and honestly, it holds true for a lot of people. Somewhere along the way, being “the strong one,” “the helper,” or “the fixer” became your role. Not always because you chose it but because you did not challenge it. Taking on other people’s problems can feel like love, loyalty, or responsibility; however, over time, it becomes emotional overload.

Here are 3 takeaways to protect your peace:

💚 Awareness is step one: Notice when you are taking responsibility for something that is not yours. Just because you can carry it does not mean you should.

💙 Boundaries are not rejection: Saying “no” or “I can’t hold this right now” does not make you selfish. It actually makes you healthy.

🤍 Support ≠ Saving: You can care about people without rescuing them. Let others own their growth, choices, and consequences.

You deserve relationships where care is mutual, not one-sided.

Dear 2026...

A new year is not about becoming someone new...it is about moving forward with clearer vision and renewed perseverance, trusting both the process and God’s timing. Scripture reminds us, “Write the vision and make it plain” (Habakkuk 2:2). Vision gives direction but perseverance, supported by faith, is what carries us when motivation fades and the work feels slow.

From a therapeutic and spiritual lens, sustainable growth happens when: 💙 Goals are aligned with your values and prayer, not pressure or comparison
💚 Progress is measured by consistency, not perfection
🤍 Grace, rest, and reflection are part of the journey

This year does not require you to rush, strive, or get it all "right." Y'all know how I feel about that word! It invites you to stay committed, trust God with the outcome, and take faithful steps forward...one day at a time.
May this year be marked by clarity, resilience, healing, and deep trust in the One who orders our steps. Happy New Year 🎆🎊🥳🎉

What's one goal you have for this new year? Comment below...

The Christmas story reminds us that hope entered the world quietly, in the midst of uncertainty, vulnerability, and unmet expectations. If your holiday does not look “perfect,” you are not failing. The holidays can bring joy, grief, connection, and loneliness, often at the same time. If this season feels emotionally complex, that is a normal human response. From a faith and mental health perspective, it is important to allow space for all emotions. God meets us in truth, not performance.

Gentle reminders for this season:
💙 Give yourself permission to feel what you feel. Joy does not require denying pain
💚 Create small moments of grounding: prayer, a walk, deep breaths, or lighting a candle in remembrance
🤍 Set loving boundaries. Rest is not selfish; it is stewardship of your soul

May you experience moments of peace, comfort, and grace...exactly as you are. You are seen. You are held!
