For several months, one family watched their daughter face the ups and downs of surgery and recovery in the Progressive Care Unit of our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Through every difficult moment, nurse Morgan Stangle was there.

Morgan cared for her patient with kindness, patience and an unwavering commitment that extended far beyond her scheduled shifts. She stopped by on her days off to check on her, created special crafts and activities so she could be part of holiday celebrations and made sure the family always felt seen and supported.

Then, when the long-awaited day finally arrived for the little girl to go home, Morgan came in on her day off once more, this time to celebrate how far she had come and say goodbye.

That extraordinary compassion earned Morgan the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

As the family shared in Morgan’s nomination, “She is an extraordinary nurse who has made a lasting impact on our daughter and our entire family.”

Congratulations, Morgan, and thank you for giving your patients and their families so much more than medical care. 💚

Please join us in congratulating Rose Mary Ainsworth, Maria Caceres, Bonnie Mullen and the many Mother Baby nurses whose dedication transformed a patient safety concern into nationally recognized research!

Published in the July/August 2026 issue of MCN: The American Journal of Maternal/Child Nursing, the team's latest research identifies key risk factors that can help hospitals better recognize situations where newborn falls are more likely to occur and strengthen prevention efforts.

It all began with a difficult situation.

In 2012, seven newborns experienced accidental falls while rooming in with their families during their birth hospitalization at our hospital. Although these events were exceptionally rare, even one was too many.

Instead of accepting those incidents as unavoidable, the nurses set out to understand why they were happening and what could be done to prevent them. They developed one of the nation's first newborn fall prevention assessment scales and spent the next 14 years advancing research to help make newborn care safer.

Today, their work is helping hospitals nationwide better identify newborns at risk for accidental falls and giving families greater confidence that hospitals are continually working to make the first days of life as safe as possible.

To infinity and beyond — right from the hospital! 🚀

Pediatric patients at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children were among kids across the country treated to a special screening of Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5.

Our Child Life team kicked off a new experience that gives kids the chance to enjoy new Disney movies during their stay, so being in the hospital doesn’t have to mean missing out.

The fun is part of Disney’s longtime collaboration with Starlight Children’s Foundation, which is bringing Toy Story 5 screenings to more than 400 children’s hospitals and donating 18,000 toys to help bring a little extra comfort and joy to kids when they need it most.

We’re excited to bring movie magic to our patients, and this is just the beginning. 🍿

Seven weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). A lifetime of milestones ahead. ✅

When Barrett was born on Oct. 28, 2020, his family never expected a NICU journey, but breathing challenges and feeding difficulties meant he would spend his first weeks in our NICU before finally going home. He was later diagnosed with Noonan syndrome and 15q13.3 microdeletion syndrome.

"It was very overwhelming, but soon started to feel like home," his mom shared. "Everyone from the security guards to the nurses and doctors truly made us feel like family."

She'll never forget the nurses who cared for Barrett, especially the one who placed him in her arms for the very first time.

Today, Barrett is starting kindergarten.

"To look at him now, you would never know how his journey began. He is such an amazing, smart and kind little boy."

Congratulations, Barrett! We are honored your family trusted us for your care, and we're so grateful to celebrate this incredible milestone with you. ❤️

The group traded the clinical setting for the toy aisles, shopping for the children they care for every day through the Huntsville Hospital Foundation's annual Christmas in July Toy Drive.
