There's a mama in need in our community and I'm hoping y'all will show her some love in her last few weeks of pregnancy.
K came to me a couple months ago looking for doula support for her fifth baby's birth. Her last birth was during the height of Covid and was extremely traumatic. When we met for our first prenatal visit, K got teary eyed telling me about what she had gone through as a Black pregnant woman on Medicaid, navigating rude ignorance in medical staff and an overall lack of empathy for the challenges she faced in birth.
This time will be different. She's got a great provider and has hired me to be by her side throughout labor and birth, which is a deep honor.
Unfortunately, as she's only one month away from her due date, her family is now facing some serious financial struggles -- her husband had a work accident where he almost lost a finger and is on temporary disability right now. They don't have funds to cover much more than rent and basic living expenses. I've already deeply discounted my doula fee by 50% and we've figured out a payment plan, but I wanted to see if our community would step in and help ease K's burden. I know any amount you can spare would be so appreciated and make her family's life a little easier during a tough time.
Anything you donate will go directly to K's doula expenses. I so appreciate any love and support you can show her!!!
