Your Anti-Inflammation Blueprint

Inflammation can leave you feeling tired, achy, stiff, puffy, and like you're moving through life with the parking brake on.

I want you to hear me: you do not have to live like this.

This isn’t about a magic pill.

It’s about taking simple actions that calm the inflammation in your body, starting this week.

Here’s where you start:

-Add one anti-inflammatory food at every meal.
Berries, leafy greens, salmon, walnuts, olive oil. Pick one. Put it on your plate.

-Cut down the top 3 inflammation triggers.
Processed sugar, fried foods, and soda. I’m not saying “never” I’m saying “less” starting today.

-Move your body every day.
Not an hour.
Not perfection.
Just 10–20 minutes to get your blood flowing and your joints lubricated.

-Prioritize your sleep like it’s a business meeting.
Inflammation goes through the roof when you’re running on fumes.

You don’t have to overhaul your whole life in one go, you just have to take one step.

Because when you start stacking small wins, your body will respond faster than you think.

A week from now, you could either still be Googling “Why do I feel so tired all the time?”

Or you could be waking up with less pain, a flatter stomach, and energy that doesn’t fizzle by 2 PM.

Start small and stick to it, you will see the change you so desperately want.

Need more specifics?
Here's a quick checklist for you.

DAILY

-Eat ONE anti-inflammatory food at every meal (berries, greens, salmon, walnuts, olive oil)
-Cut back on processed sugar, fried foods, and soda
-Move for 10–20 minutes walk, stretch, or lift
-Drink half your body weight in ounces of water
-Get 7–9 hours of sleep (non-negotiable)

WEEKLY

-Plan 3–4 meals ahead to avoid “whatever’s easy”
-Try one new anti-inflammatory recipe
-Check in with your body, less pain? More energy? Celebrate it!

Hope that helps!
-Joe

The Most Embarrassing Doctor Visit of My Life

When I was 21 years old, I moved to Ireland.

I didn't know anyone.
I didn't have much money.
But, I was having a great time!

And then I got scabies from a cheap, dirty hostel.

If you've never had it, consider yourself lucky.
It's a skin condition caused by tiny mites, and the itching was relentless.
Pun intended.

DO NOT LOOK UP PICTURES.
Unless you want to ruin your day.

Or maybe you are more familiar with it in, dog terms.
Mange!

The worst part wasn't the itching.
It was the embarrassment, because it looked awful.

I kept telling myself it would go away.
I convinced myself a doctor's visit would be expensive.
I didn't know how health care worked there and didn't want to ask.
I also didn't want to explain what was wrong.

So I waited.
And waited.
Eventually, I couldn't take it anymore.

I finally made an appointment when I got back to America.

The doctor took one look at it, handed me a prescription for a simple cream, and that was it.

Problem solved.
In one day.

I walked out thinking...
"Why in the world did I wait so long?"

That experience has stuck with me for more than 25 plus years because I see the same thing happen with fitness.

"I need to lose some weight before I join a gym."
"I'll start exercising after I get in a little better shape."
"I don't want people to see how out of shape I am."

Embarrassment has convinced countless people to wait.

But waiting rarely makes the problem smaller.

It usually makes it bigger.

Here's something I want you to remember:
You don't get in shape to start exercising.
You start exercising to get in shape.

No one expects you to walk through our doors already strong.
That's why we're here.

Every woman who has transformed her health at Relentless Positivity Fitness started somewhere.

Many of them were nervous.
Many of them hadn't exercised in years.
Some worried everyone would be watching them.

Instead, they found encouragement, coaching, and a community that was cheering them on.

Don't let embarrassment keep you stuck any longer than it has to.

Your future self will probably look back and ask the same question I did after that doctor's visit:
"Why did I wait so long?"

Wherever you are with your health right now, it can't be as embarrassing as having the man mange :)

The Story of RPF

Since we just passed 17 years in business (17 YEARS!) I thought I would give you a rundown on some of the things I've been pondering.

So many memories from over the years.

This is a picture from The Huntsville Times.
I apparently started my business when I was 12 years old...

17 years ago, I was working full-time on Redstone Arsenal, part-time at Huntsville Hospital, coaching football at Challenger Middle School, and training private clients in their homes.

Things were going well, but I felt like I was meant to do more, and I needed a way to spend more time with my family.

And I knew I was meant to help more people and change more lives.

My dad was the one who started this whole thing.

He said, "Have you ever heard of these boot camps? I think you would be good at it."

He gave me the idea, supported me however/whenever I needed it, encouraged me, and never doubted me. Thanks Dad!

So I started with one 530am class.

My dream was to have a place where women could lift each other up, inspire each other, make lifelong friends, and inject a heavy dose of positivity into their lives.

It has been a huge blessing to see that come to fruition.

I've seen my clients get each other through:
-Cancer
-Surgeries
-Depressions
-Substance abuse
-Loss of parents
-Loss of children
-Loss of siblings
-Loss of spouses
-Divorces
-Losing jobs
-Furloughs
-Pandemics
-Burpees (sorry, I know better now)

And they in turn played a big part in helping me get through the loss of my brother.

Over the years, I've seen lifelong friendships form in class. Strangers doing strange exercises one day and then BFFs a few weeks later.

So cool to see.

When I was coming up with the blueprint of what I wanted my boot camp to look like I thought about my mom.

She's the one I modeled the classes after and how I go about treating people.

The majority of the people who come to class are moms.

I always ask myself how I would like another coach to treat my mom.

I would always have a level of exercise that suits them, and no one would ever be left behind.

Everyone would get results no matter what shape they are in.

And nobody would ever be left behind or feel like they didn't belong.

And when people get intimidated about coming to class, I can always tell them, "Well, my mom comes..."

We started with outdoor boot camp style classes for women and now we have switched our focus to get women 50 and older stronger.

You can tell the people who have been with me for a long time, they still call it boot camp :)

These days we have more women in class over 70 than we do under 50.

By supporting me for past 17 years you have:
-had houses built in Nicaragua
-clothed foster kids
-clothed, fed, and given transportation to our local homeless population
-kept homeless families together
-given veterans health care
-given money, clothes, food, and home repairs to tornado victims
-provided school supplies for kids who desperately needed them
-built beds for kids who were sleeping on the floor
-money for brain cancer research
-helped flood victims
-dog adoptions
-provided school supplies for kids who can't afford them
-provided hope and happiness to kids with brain cancer
-helped young girls get mentors
-money for breast cancer research and experiences for breast cancer survivor
-thousands of acts of kindness in my brother's memory

And those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head!
I'm surrounded by givers :)

That's the beauty of a local, small business.
No red tape, so asking for permission.
I am completely allowed to give away all my money!

Over 1500 women have attended our classes over the years.
We've had nearly 12,000 classes and changed countless lives.

Those numbers are so crazy to me when I think back to when I started.

I never thought I would own a business, much less one that has impacted so many lives.

Thank you!

For reading my e-mails, attending my classes, training with me online, telling someone about classes, doing nutrition coaching with me, liking social media posts like this, buying my books, or just giving me an encouraging word.

It all adds up and it all means the world to me.

You have changed my life, and I can't thank you enough.

The best part?
We are just getting started :)

Forever grateful,
-Joe

PS- One favor before I go...

Seventeen years isn't really my story.
It's ours.

If you've ever attended a class, I'd love to hear your favorite RPF memory.

It could be a friendship you made, a funny moment, a goal you reached, or something that changed your life.

And if you've never been to class but you've been reading these emails or social media posts over the years, I'd love to hear from you too.

Has there been something that encouraged you?
A story that stuck with you?
A lesson that changed your perspective?
Or maybe something you finally put into practice.

Sometimes I wonder if my advice I spend so much time putting together makes a difference.

Hearing your stories would mean more than you know.

Just comment below or send me a message and tell me your story.

Reading your responses would be an amazing gift.

The 3 Muscles We Lose The Fastest After 50

When most people think about getting in shape, they tend to think about losing belly fat or getting toned arms.

But after 50, there's something much more important I think we should keep in mind.

Protecting the muscles that keep you independent.

As we age, we naturally lose muscle.

The good news?
Strength training can slow, and even reverse, much of that loss.

The three muscle groups I care about most and we tend to lose the fastest are:

1. Your Legs
Strong legs help you:
Climb stairs
Get up from a chair
Carry groceries
Keep up with your grandkids
Reduce your risk of falling

Every squat, step-up, and lunge is an investment in your future.

2. Your Glutes
Your glutes are the largest muscles in your body, and they're responsible for much more than how you look in a pair of jeans.

Strong glutes help support your knees, protect your back, improve balance, and make everyday movements easier.

Unfortunately, hours of sitting can cause them to become weak over time.

3. Your Upper Back
We talked about your rhomboids recently, the muscles between your shoulder blades.

They're part of a larger group of upper back muscles that help you stand taller, improve posture, reduce neck and shoulder pain, and make lifting and carrying things easier.

A strong upper back helps you look more confident and move with less discomfort.

No one over 50 has ever told me, "Joe, I wish I had spent more time working on my six-pack."

But I have heard plenty of women say:
"I wish climbing stairs didn't leave me out of breath."
"I wish getting off the floor was easier."
"I wish my back didn't hurt every afternoon."
"I just want to feel strong again."

That's why at Relentless Positivity Fitness, we don't train for a swimsuit.
We train for life.

We train so you can travel, garden, pick up your grandchildren, carry your own groceries, and say "yes" to the things you love for years to come.

Today's Challenge:
The next time you exercise, don't ask yourself, "Will this help me lose weight?"

Ask instead:
"Will this help me stay strong enough to enjoy my life?"

That question changes everything.
Stay Strong,
-Joe

The Muscle That Can Instantly Improve Your Posture

Have you ever caught yourself slouching on the couch or while you are looking down at your phone?

One of the biggest culprits is often weak rhomboids.

The rhomboids are the muscles between your shoulder blades.
Their job is to pull your shoulders back and stabilize your upper back.

And also a fun word to say.

When they're weak, you may notice:
-Rounded shoulders
-Neck and upper back tension
-Poor posture
-Shoulder discomfort
-Difficulty lifting or reaching overhead

Strong rhomboids help you stand taller, move better, and even breathe more efficiently.

My Favorite Rhomboid Exercises
Dumbbell Rows
TRX Rows
Resistance Band Rows
Face Pulls
Reverse Flys
Band Pull-Aparts
"Y-T-W" Raises

As you perform each exercise, focus on squeezing your shoulder blades together instead of just pulling with your arms.

We include these movements regularly in class because they're essential for improving posture, protecting your shoulders, and helping you stay strong for everyday life.

A stronger back means standing taller, moving easier, and feeling more confident.

The next time you catch yourself slouching, gently pull your shoulder blades down and back.

Your rhomboids and posture will thank you!

PS- I just finished something I think can help you.
