πŸŽ‰ Happy World Emoji Day! πŸŽ‰

Did you know emojis can be more than just a fun way to text? They can also be a great tool for learning through play!

Whether you're an occupational therapist, speech-language pathologist, teacher, or parent, emojis can encourage children to move, communicate, and think creatively.

Try this simple Emoji Movement Challenge at home:

πŸ˜€ = 10 jumping jacks
🐸 = 10 frog jumps
πŸ¦€ = Crab walk across the room
🐻 = Bear crawl to the nearest door and back
🦩 = Balance on one foot for 10 seconds
⭐ = Reach up high for 10 star jumps
🐧 = Waddle like a penguin across the room
πŸš€ = Run in place for 20 seconds

Once you've completed each movement, keep the learning going with a few conversation starters:
πŸ’¬ Which movement was your favorite? Why?
πŸ’¬ Which one was the most challenging?
πŸ’¬ How did your heart and muscles feel after moving?
πŸ’¬ If you could create your own movement emoji, what would it be?

These simple activities help build:
✨ Balance and coordination
✨ Motor planning
✨ Body awareness
✨ Strength and endurance
✨ Following directions
✨ Vocabulary and expressive language
✨ Social interaction and turn-taking

The best part? Kids are building important developmental skills while having fun, and they don't even realize they're learning!

How are you celebrating World Emoji Day? Drop your favorite emoji in the comments! β¬‡οΈπŸ˜ŠπŸŽ‰

The best part? Many everyday adventures around Idaho Falls naturally help build important developmental skills, all while having fun as a family!

Here are a few ideas to add to your summer bucket list:

🌊 Take a walk along the Idaho Falls River Walk
Practice observation skills by spotting ducks, flowers, bridges, or waterfalls. Turn it into a scavenger hunt!

Climb, swing, slide, and explore! Playground play helps develop strength, coordination, balance, and social skills.

🦁 Visit the Idaho Falls Zoo
Talk about your favorite animals, compare sizes and colors, and practice asking and answering questions while exploring together.

🎨 Get creative at ARTitorium or the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho
Create artwork, tell stories about your masterpieces, and encourage imagination through hands-on play.

πŸ“š Join a summer program at the Idaho Falls Public Library
Story times, crafts, and reading challenges are wonderful ways to build language, listening, and literacy skills.

πŸ’¦ Cool off with water play
Whether it's sprinklers, splash pads, or water balloons, water play supports coordination, motor planning, and sensory exploration.

πŸ₯• Visit the Farmers Market
Let your child help choose fruits and vegetables, carry a shopping bag, count items, and practice ordering or thanking vendors.

πŸ₯Ύ Go on a nature adventure
Build a fort, collect leaves and rocks, watch for birds, or enjoy a family picnic. Nature is the perfect place to encourage curiosity, problem-solving, and creativity.

At Achieve Therapy & Learning Services, we know that some of the best learning happens through play. Every adventure is an opportunity to build communication, confidence, motor skills, and lasting family memories.

⚽🌎 The World Cup is in full swing, and it's the perfect opportunity to turn soccer into a fun learning experience!

Whether you're watching a match or kicking the ball around in the backyard, here are a few simple ways to build skills through play:

πŸ₯… Set up a mini obstacle course to practice balance, coordination, and motor planning.

⚽ Take turns passing the ball while answering fun questions to encourage conversation, turn-taking, and social skills.

🎯 Practice kicking at different targets to work on hand-eye (or foot-eye!) coordination, body awareness, and force control.

πŸ—£οΈ Be a sports announcer! Describe the action, predict what might happen next, or retell your favorite play to strengthen language and storytelling skills.

🎨 Design your own team jersey or flag to encourage creativity, fine motor skills, and handwriting.

The best part? Kids are having so much fun they don't even realize they're building important developmental skills along the way.

Who are you cheering for this World Cup? βš½πŸ†
