Sometimes I have to apologize to clients for being too excited for the progress they can make. Although it’s genuine, I hope they can start to see the possibilities of what can be. Today was one on those days.

The longer emotions have been suppressed the more overwhelming they can feel when we finally address them. It can feel validating to go back to old habits. We have to resist going back to what didn’t work.

Over apologizing is a people pleasing trait that over considers others and under considers the apologizer. This becomes a default. There should never be an apology for being yourself. When an apology is necessary you give one. Over apologizing shifts the relational dynamics to a one up one down position. If you only see everyone as being superior to you, you have tasked yourself with the impossible task of being responsible for others being ok. This, most importantly, damages the relationship you have with yourself when you can’t see your own value.

We are often looking outwards and in others for what we need. While connection with other is a necessary, we often over look our own skills and abilities to meet our needs even we are outsourcing to others. You are just what you need.
