Resistant Hypertension Strongly Linked to Severe Sleep Apnea.

Assessments of 300 adults revealed that 94% of those with treatment-resistant hypertension had sleep apnea, with 37% classified as severe—compared to just 2% among normotensive participants in the same study. Repeated oxygen drops during sleep increase cardiovascular strain and may interfere with blood pressure control. These findings suggest that adults whose hypertension does not respond to usual care may benefit from screening for sleep apnea.

Higher Fitness Supports Brain Health.

A study that included 4,030 adults revealed that fitness levels above nine metabolic equivalents a week—15–30 minutes of fast cycling, 20–30 minutes of vigorous flow yoga, or just 5–15 minutes of fast-paced jumping rope, for example—are linked to a 53% lower risk of stroke over a 26.5-year period.

Mid-Back Treatment May Reduce Shoulder Pain.

Subacromial impingement is a shoulder condition in which the tendons of the rotator cuff become pinched between the top of the upper arm bone and the shoulder blade during movement, leading to pain and limited range of motion. A recent meta-analysis of data from twelve studies found that mobilization therapy applied to the mid-back to help restore scapular alignment resulted in improvements in pain and disability in subacromial impingement patients.

Neighborhood Traits May Influence Biological Aging.

Living in a neighborhood without access to things like green spaces, clean air, good jobs, quality schools, and affordable housing may increase chronic stress, which can speed up aging at the cellular level and raise the risk of developing health problems earlier in life.

Walking Is Most Common Exercise…

A survey of 396,261 adults found that walking is the most common form of physical activity. However, only about 1 in 4 walkers satisfies recommended physical activity guidelines. Most adults can meet these guidelines by averaging about 7,000–8,000 steps per day, especially if some of those steps are taken at a brisk pace.
