We’re the small, friendly pediatric team right here on Richmond Rd in Irvine, and we’d love to meet your family before you ever need us.

"How was school?" "Fine."

If that's the whole conversation at your house, you're not alone. Every parent gets the one-word answer.

Here's the thing: kids rarely walk in and announce that something's wrong. They don't have the words for it yet, or they're worried about how you'll react, or they're still figuring out how they feel. So they test the water with small answers first. Your job isn't to interrogate. It's to leave a door open they can walk through when they're ready.

October is Bullying Prevention Month, and the questions that actually work aren't about bullying at all. They're specific, they're low-pressure, and they're hard to answer with "fine":

Who did you sit with at lunch? What was the best part of today? What was the worst? Who got in trouble this week? What happened? If you could change one thing about school, what would it be?

Ask in the car, at dinner, during a show, anywhere they don't have to make eye contact. You're not fishing for a crisis. You're building the habit of talking, so that when something does happen, telling you feels normal instead of scary.

Here's the one most parents skip: protective eyewear. 👀

September is Sports Eye Safety Month, and here's why it matters: eye injuries are one of the most preventable injuries in youth sports. A ball, an elbow, a stray finger, it happens fast. And most of these injuries could be avoided with sports goggles that cost about the same as a good pair of socks.

Regular glasses don't count, and they can actually make an injury worse if they shatter. Sport-specific protective eyewear is the gear that finishes the list.

That sports physical? It got your athlete cleared to play, but it wasn't their real checkup. 🩺

A sports physical is a quick clearance for the season. A well-child visit is the full picture: growth, development, vision and hearing, immunizations, school and behavior, and time to ask whatever's been on your mind. Kids need that one every year, all the way through the teen years, and most plans cover it.

Here's the part parents ask us about most, so let's make it simple:

✅ If your child is DUE for their yearly well-child visit, we can do the sports physical AND the checkup together in one appointment. Two birds, one visit.

📋 If they're not due yet, a stand-alone sports physical usually isn't covered by insurance on its own, so we pair it with a regular office visit. Just let us know when you call and we'll walk you through the best option for your family.

Happy 2 years, Brittney! 🎉

Two years ago, Brittney joined the A+ Pediatrics family, and we honestly can't imagine the place without her. As our Office Manager, she's often the friendly voice on the other end of the line, the one keeping everything running behind the scenes, and the reason so many of your visits go smoothly.

Week three of school is when the summer sleep schedule finally catches up with everybody.

If mornings are rough at your house right now, you're in good company. A few things that tend to help:

- Move bedtime earlier in 15 minute steps, not all at once.
- Keep the same order every night so the routine does the work.
- Get screens out of the room an hour before lights out.

Give it a couple of weeks before you decide it isn't working. And if sleep is still a real struggle, that's worth a conversation. Come talk to us.
