It’s International Day of Midwives but Gillian clearly came to party with cultural appropriation. She is a silly goose after all!
We are spending the day celebrating by doing what we do and working on welcoming two babies that are going to absolutely wait their turns.
I rode in this morning reflecting on my own practice. I’ll never be the “instagram midwife”, on social media, you’ll always get the silly old me because I can’t be anything less than authentic. I’ve always held deep beliefs that YOUR birth isn’t mine to share and I’m uncomfortable with the solicitation. I will only do so when asked to share by clients.
I’m also a COMMUNITY midwife as I always intended. We strive to take care of everyone who walks in our doors, even ones not planning a home birth. This means that quite often our clients can’t afford birth photographers or live in fancy picturesque homes. We meet people where they are without exception.
Birth is never about achieving perfection and rarely goes according to plan. Yet somehow in all its messiness it’s still beautiful and forces us to stretch and grow in profound ways and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
