So much fun was had last night during the Jefferson Rotary Club's brat and burger raffle! Our Location Leader Noah and his wife and apprentice funeral director Arianna attended the festivities.

They also ate a lot of fantastic food and desserts, and even donated a basket of family board games for all to enjoy! They enjoyed meeting so many of you within the community, too! Thank you for welcoming their family to Jefferson!

An extra special thank you to the Rotary Club, Bon Ton Catering, all of the special sponsors and donors, and even Mike for covering the drinks!

Rosemary Elizabeth Miller completed her battle with vascular dementia on August 1, 2026, at Lilac Springs Residential Care Facility in Lake Mills, Wisconsin. Rosemary was the sixth of seven children born to the family of Edwin J. and Amanda B. (Weber) Miller at the Miller Homestead in Farmington, Wisconsin on April 9, 1946.

She was baptized at St. Lawrence Catholic Church and received the balance of sacraments there while attending their grade school with education provided by the nuns of St. Francis of Assisi Convent. Rosemary graduated from Jefferson Senior High School in 1964 and particularly enjoyed participating in the choral music programs. She was especially happy to be a member of a small group called the Madrigals who were able to compete at the regional and state level. Her favorite crooners of all time were Dean Martin and Don Ho. She was able to meet Don Ho in person, while on a trip to Hawaii, and took advantage of an opportunity to have a picture taken with him which provided her a very treasured memory. Dances at Turner Hall were another of her favorite activities in her youth.

The Jefferson County Courthouse employed Rosemary for 40 years, where she worked as a Deputy Court Clerk. Her first assignment at age 21 was in Divorce Court, which she remarked was never dull and usually very entertaining as most divorces at that time were contested. Eventually, she worked in all areas of the court system, including jury trials.

Rosie took great pride in caring for her home and flowers as well as reading novels until the diagnosis of vascular dementia made it no longer possible for her to live unassisted.

At Lilac Springs Rosie particularly enjoyed the opportunities for group crafting, as well as games such as Bingo, Uno, Crazy 8, Yahtzee and others. Blue became her favorite color.

Rosemary is survived by sisters; Marion (Allan) Klokow and Janet Balaam, brother-in-law Lyle Riedl as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, siblings; Raymond and (Betty) Miller, Ernest and (Karen) Miller, Carol Riedl, Robert Miller in infancy, brother-in-law William Balaam, nephew Donald Klokow and her very good friend, Rolf Thornquist.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, August 14, 2026 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (324 E. North Street – Jefferson, WI) at 11:00am. Visitation for Rosie will be held from 9:30am until the time of Mass. Rosie will be laid to rest following the Mass at St. Lawrence Cemetery.

A very grateful thank you to Desiree and her staff at Lilac Springs and Tricia Schmidt, of Rainbow Hospice, for their gentle and kind care of Rosemary.

Memorials, if desired, in the form of Mass Stipends or a donation to a charity benefiting dementia care, would be appreciated.

Supporting communities near and far is something we take great pride in. Tornadoes can sometimes affect more than buildings. They can affect shelter, lives, loved ones, food, water, and clothing. The town of Menasha was recently hit with a tornado that affected everyone.

Through the end of today, Nitardy Funeral Homes and Schneider-Michaelis Funeral Homes are collecting any perishable food items, clothing, and personal items you deem fit for those in Menasha. Thank you for your support!

John Michael Riley

November 1, 1951 – June 26, 2026

John Michael Riley, age 74, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026. Born on November 1, 1951, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, John grew up in the Bay View neighborhood and graduated from Bay View High School in 1969. In his teenage years and early twenties, John was a bit of a rebel with a deep sense of adventure. In a legendary chapter of his youth, when he was 21 years old, he and a group of friends from Milwaukee packed up and moved down to Key West, Florida. They built a tree hut on top of a lion’s cage in the woods and spent an unforgettable summer partying—right up until the sheriff's deputies arrived, shut down the operation, and arrested everyone inside.

While he worked various odd jobs in Milwaukee early on—including a factory position at Ladish Co.—he eventually moved to Madison, where he spent most of his life and raised his family.

John was a man who loved working with his hands. After working in the auto repair business and a brief stint selling insurance, he spent 17 years working as a technician for the phone company until his retirement, a role that allowed him to use those hands-on skills. He also worked as a newspaper carrier in Madison for many years.

To know John was to know his deep passion for anything on wheels or in the world of sports. A true car enthusiast, he took immense pride in the vehicles he owned throughout his life, most notably his 1963 Austin-Healey, a Camaro, a 1969 Ford Mustang, and two Corvettes ('05 and '07). When he wasn't tinkering with cars, he was an avid sports fan, happily watching everything from football, basketball, and baseball to golf, racing, and bowling. He also absolutely loved going camping, finding great joy in spending time outdoors. John was remarkably active; in his later years, prior to his illness, he developed a love for sailing and bicycling. He possessed an impressive athleticism, routinely crushing multiple "century rides" (100-mile bike rides) in a single summer.

John was a wonderful grandfather who loved his grandchildren deeply, and he treasured the time he got to spend with them. He is survived by his children, Justin (Kristi) Riley of Jefferson, WI, and their children, Lauralee and Oliver Riley; and Anika Wolf of Massachusetts. He is also survived by his sister, Cindy (Rob) Zaleski of Madison, and three nieces, Amy, Kerry, and Jessica. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Patricia Riley of Eagle, WI.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Reena Senior Living in Fort Atkinson and Rainbow Hospice Care in Johnson Creek for their exceptional compassion and support during his final days.

Celebration of Life Details:

A small celebration of life for John's closest friends and family will be held in the Waupaca-King area on Sunday, July 26, 2026, after which family and friends are invited to gather for a late lunch to share memories and celebrate John's life at one of his favorite spots, Clearwater Harbor
