In Loving Memory of Manual “Sam” John Farris

“Coach Sam” • “Sambo”

May 20, 1944 – August 30, 2026

Manual John Farris, affectionately known as “Sambo” and “Coach Sam,” age 82, passed away on August 30, 2026. He was born on May 20, 1944, in Jellico, Tennessee.
Survived by his beloved nieces and nephews, Robbin Smith, Sheila Farris, Ronnie Farris, Alex Brown, Ulis Roberts, and Lucis Farris. As well many great-nieces and nephews and his best friend, his dog Duce and special friend Valerie England Day.

Coach Sam was a truly special person whose presence brought smiles, laughter, and kindness wherever he went. He never met a stranger, and his big heart made him loved by so many throughout the Jellico community.

One thing everyone knew about Coach Sam was that he was a huge Tennessee Vols fan. Whether he was proudly dressed in his UT gear or sitting back watching the game, cheering for the Vols was one of his favorite things to do. His love for the Vols was a big part of who he was.

But perhaps nothing meant more to Sam than his Jellico community. He was a familiar and beloved face around town, always out making his rounds. You could often find him at Buck’s Hardware Store, Fast Track, acting as security, or passing through the barber shop. Sam had a way of making himself a part of the everyday life of Jellico, and the community loved him right back.

Coach Sam especially loved being involved with the Jellico Elementary School football team. He enjoyed being around the boys and teaching them lessons both on and off the field. He loved kids and had a special way of connecting with them. In many ways, Sam was just a big kid himself, full of joy, energy, and an eagerness to be involved.

Sam was also proud to participate in the Special Olympics, where he earned several medals. His accomplishments were something to celebrate, but those who knew him will remember that his greatest gift was simply being Sam.

His life and unique personality were so special that a documentary was made about him, helping capture the story of a man who meant so much to his community.

Sam was also honored to serve as the Grand Marshal of the Jellico Christmas Parade last Christmas, a fitting tribute to someone who had become such an important and recognizable part of the community he loved.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, John Farris Jr. and Ada Farris; his brother, Ulis Roberts; and his sisters, Jo Florence Farris and Gwendolyn Farris.

Those who knew Coach Sam will remember his infectious personality, his kindness, his love for children, his dedication to Jellico, his passion for the Vols, and the way he could make just about anyone feel like a friend.

Jellico has lost one of its most familiar and beloved faces. Though Coach Sam is no longer walking the streets of the town he loved, making his rounds and checking on everyone, his memory will remain a part of the community for generations to come.
Funeral service 12 noon Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Llewellyn Funeral Home Chapel in Jellico, Tennessee with Rev. Gerald Littlejohn officiating. Friends and family will meet for visitation from 10:30 am until the funeral hour at 12 noon. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery Jellico, Tennessee.
Serving as pallbearers, Robert Fuqua III., Robert Fuqua Sr., Jeff Tye, Alex Brown, Ulis Roberts and Lucis Farris.

Ottie Rose (Hackler) Davis
Ottie Rose (Hackler) Davis went to be with her Lord on September 1, 2026, at Beech Tree Nursing Home in Jellico, Tennessee. She was born on July 22, 1945, to the late Charles and Oma (Baker) Hackler.
In addition to her parents, Ottie was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Wayne “Dutch” Davis. Infant brother and sister Hugh Preston and Ovalee.
She is survived by her beloved siblings: China Mae Hackler; Leoma (Hackler) Davenport and husband, Larry Davenport; Gertrude (Hackler) Stephens and husband, Tommy Stephens; William Charles “Sonny” Hackler, whose late wife was Vickie Hackler; Harold Hackler and wife, Michelle Hackler; Barbara (Hackler) Davenport and husband, Gary Davenport; Henry Hackler and wife, Tonya Hackler; James Hackler and wife, Lisa Hackler; John Hackler and wife, Nora Hackler; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends who mourn her passing.
Funeral Arrangements
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the Llewellyn Funeral Home Chapel in Jellico, Tennessee.
The funeral service will begin at 8:00 p.m., with the Rev. Mike Douglas officiating.
Interment will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, in Jellico Cemetery.

Obituary for Andrew J. “A.J.” Lawson
March 4, 1947 – July 30, 2026

Andrew J. (A.J.) Lawson, age 79, departed this life July 30, 2026, at his home in the Boston community of Whitley County. A.J. was born March 4, 1947, to the late Andrew and Nannie (Gosnell) Lawson. In addition to his parents, A.J. was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 39 years, Patricia Hall Lawson; father and mother-in-law Clyde and Francis Hall; sisters Bonnie Russell, Sandra Bogan, and Barbara Coffee; brothers-in-law Kenneth Lewis, Ronald Hall and Jim Trimble; sisters-in-law Ethel Lawson and Janet Lawson.
A patriotic and brave American, A.J. proudly served his country as a decorated Vietnam War veteran, earning two Purple Hearts. Professionally, he spent most of his adult life working for American Greetings in Corbin, Kentucky. A devoted man of faith, he was a long-time member of Boston Baptist Church. Outside of work and church, A.J. loved spending time outdoors, mowing grass, and possessed a “green thumb” for gardening. Above all, he cherished his family and friends and loved nothing more than spending time with them.
He is survived by his loving children, Andrea (James) Smith of Corbin, KY, and Britt (Chandra) Lawson of London, KY; and his four cherished grandchildren: Leah Smith, Eli Lawson, Caleb Lawson, and Abby Smith.
A.J. also leaves behind four brothers: James Lawson, Arlis Lawson, Jerry Lawson, and Rick (Debbie) Lawson; three sisters: Janice (Paul) Parsley, Carol Trimble, Linda (Edmon) Cox, and Vivian (Larry) Siler; one brother-in-law, Harvey Coffee and; two sisters-in-law, MaryLou (Damon) Mitchell and Patty Hall; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation will be held for A.J. at Llewellyn Funeral Home in Jellico, TN, on Sunday, August 2nd, from 6:00 - 8:00PM. His funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Marty Bramble and held on Monday, August 3rd, at 1:00 PM at Boston Baptist Church. A graveside service will immediately follow the funeral, and will be officiated by his nephew, Pastor Larry Siler, at Boston Cemetery.

Jeanette (McNealy) Jones
April 26, 1941 – July 11,2026
Jeanette (McNealy) Jones, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Jellico, Tennessee, was a devoted wife and mother who loved and cherished her family. She will be remembered for the care, warmth, and dedication she gave to those closest to her.
Jeanette was born in Jellico, Tennessee, on April 26, 1941, to the late John L. McNealy and Madeline (Taylor) McNealy. She was a member of the Jellico High School Class of 1959. On September 19, 1959, she married her sweetheart, Sterling Leroy Jones, and together they built a life centered on love, family, and devotion.
Preceded in Death
Jeanette was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sterling Leroy Jones; her parents, John L. McNealy and Madeline (Taylor) McNealy; and her brothers, Robert Earl “Babe” McNealy and Jack McNealy.
Survivors
She is survived by her children, Carrie (Jones) Hopkins and husband Randy, Keith Jones and wife Shelby, and Dan Jones; her grandchildren, Madeline Flynn and husband Aaron, Joey Freeman and husband Andrew, Taylor Stephens and husband Josh, Austin Jones, Zach Jones, Brooke Jones, Peyton Jones and husband Thomas Gilman, Jacob Jones and partner D’Waine Williams, Brandon Lee and wife Val Lee; her sister, Vonnie (McNealy) Hatfield; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends who mourn her passing.

Curtis Ray Teague, 86 years old of the Anthras, TN Community, passed away on June 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Curt took his last breath as his niece, Vanessa, read Psalms 16 & 17. It was a peaceful moment as God’s presence filled the room.
Curt is preceded in death by his beloved spouse Geneva Mazingo Teague, his parents Bill and Tennie Teague, mother-in-law and father-in-law Dee and Eva Maude Mazingo, sisters Muriel Hensley, Jackie Hassler, Jimmie White, Billie June King and Gloria Ann Allen, brothers, Joe Leach and Julius Leach (infant), brother-in-law Wayne king and sister-in-law Carolyn Mazingo King, brother-in-law Kenneth Mazingo, special cousin MB Mazingo, nephew Matthew Mazingo (the son he never had,) nephew Craig Hamblin and nephew, Barton Siler,
He is survived by daughter Tiffany Teague and husband Justin Palmer and God daughter Victoria Sloan, brother Benny Teague and wife Jennifer, sister Johnnie Teague Lawson and husband Joe Lawson, chosen family auntie Jeanie Schaefer, nephews, Steve Hamblin, Joe Lawson, Travis Lawson, Sean Teague, Jason Siler, loving nieces, Vanessa King-Nichols, Connie King-Partin, Angela Mazingo-Rodriguez, Raina Lawson Studebaker, Tina Teague-Veverka, special niece Shomi Siler that visited him daily and took him loads of Werther’s Originals, great nephew Evan Partin, great niece Carrie Beth Nichols and a host of other relatives and a long list of dear friends.
Curtis was a devoted father and husband who loved his family with quiet strength. He was a man of strong Christian faith, an avid horseman, a gardener, and a local historian. If someone needed to know anything about the Clearfork Community, they called Curt. He was a logger for most of his adult life and worked at a sawmill until he was nearly 80 years old. He enjoyed talking about the olden days, his time spent in the “moonshine business,” coal mining, railroads, and his number one passion, horses. Curt was a master of dry humor and frequently had an audience that hung on every word!
Just like his wife Geneva, he will leave a deep imprint in these hills and hollers. This cowboy was as much a part of the mountains as they were a part of him. His spirit will live forever.

Mr. Granville Moses – Completed Obituary

Granville Moses, age 87, of Jellico, Tennessee, passed away early Monday morning, June 22, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on January 13, 1939, to the late Leslie Moses and Orpha (Slaton) Moses in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer Moses, Theodore Moses and Arvil Moses; sister, Ethel Moses; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl and Thelma Queener.
Granville was a long-time Christian. He was a Past Master of Jellico Masonic Lodge # 527, F. & A. M., a member of both the Knoxville Scottish Rite and Kerbela Shrine Temple.
Granville, along with his wife, Glena, were owners of the Cloverleaf Exxon and well as other businesses for many years.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Glena (Queener) Moses, of Jellico; son, Gary Moses, of Jellico; three daughters, Carol Douglas, and husband, Tony, of Nashville, Linda Cupp, and husband, Dennis, of Corbin, and Karen Miles, and husband, Mark, of Knoxville.
Granville is also survived by six grandchildren, Emily Douglas, Caitlin Hart, and husband, Travis, Eric Douglas, Tyler Cupp, and wife, Allison, Nicholas Miles, and wife, Danielle, and Mikayla Miles, and fiancé, Cody Ozias; three great-grandchildren, Sadie Jo Hart, Lainey Hart and Parker Cupp; several nephews and nieces, and a host of friends, neighbors and other relatives to mourn his passing.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday evening, June 24, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Llewellyn Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will immediately follow on Wednesday evening, June 24, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. at the Llewellyn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lester Cox and the Rev. Jared Potter officiating.

Hubert Ray Kidd, age 82, of Jellico, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his residence to be with the Lord on June 7, 2026. He was born on April 18, 1944, in Jellico, Tennessee. Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Mary Magdaline (Lena) Kidd; his sisters, Barbara Louise Bowling, Mary Ruth Cooper, and Mattie Retha Childress; and his brother, William Martin Kidd. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Alene (Hackler) Kidd; his sons, Andrew Kidd, Harvey Kidd and wife Heather, and Joshua Kidd; his granddaughter, Candice Kidd Petree and husband Joseph; his grandson, Erik Kidd and wife Tara; his great-grandsons, Daniel Petree and Tyson Petree; his brothers, Leslie Edward Kidd and Omar Kidd and wife Lois; along with many nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends. Obituary of Helen Ruth Sharp (March 1, 1932-May 28, 2026)
Helen Ruth “Tot” Sharp, aged 94, passed away May 28, 2026, following a brief illness. She devoted her life to Jellico and cherished her hometown, friends, and family. Known for her zealous shopping, family referred to her car as “Santa’s Sleigh.” She loved to buy for others, and, before the age of the Internet, she spent countless hours looking for just the right thing to wear or to buy for someone. It was her favorite pastime and her gift.
Helen worked at Union Bank of Jellico into her 90’s and led the maintenance and funding of the Jellico Cemetery. Memorial Day was her favorite holiday, possibly next to Christmas, which she spent with her sister’s family in Atlanta. Helen survived all but one of her ten siblings and many of her friends. She lived life on her own terms and lived in her own home until her last days.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis M. Sharp Sr. and Maude (Proffitt) Sharp; siblings, J. Hansford “Hank” Sharp, Lewis M. Sharp Jr., Lois (Sharp) Rose, Polly (Sharp) Wallace, John Sharp, C. Willis “Bill” Sharp, James “Jim” Sharp and 2 infants that passed away after birth.
Helen is survived by her sister, Edna Sharp Sullivan, of Atlanta, dozens of nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews, and thousands of adoring friends. At Helen’s request, there will be no formal service. Instead, family and friends will gather for a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. on June 11, 2026, at Jellico Cemetery, officiated by her pastor, Dr. Robert Dunston. Interment will follow at Jellico Cemetery.

Shirley Faye Smith, 84, of Jellico, Tennessee, was born on November 5, 1941, and passed away on May 24, 2026, at Beverly Park Place Health and Rehab in Knoxville, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William (Bill) Smith and Marie Smith; her mother, Alma Geneva King Marler; her father, Paul Silcox; and her life partner, Dan Neace.
Shirley is survived by her children, Tena Sharpe, Sam Sharp and wife, Debra Sharp; her grandchildren, Tabitha and Ned Rossini, Mitch and Gaby Phillips, Brandon Sharp, and Nathan and Aleena Sharp; and her great-grandchildren, Alyssa Rossini, Grayson Rossini, Arantza Phillips, Scarlett Sharp, and Callen Sharp.
She also leaves behind her Silcox family brothers and sisters: Sarah Hershberg, Judy Marlow, Kathy Rose, Carolyn Perkins, and Donna Hollifield. She was also preceded in death by Silcox family brothers Danny, Robert, David, Gary, and Larry. In the Marler family, she was preceded in death by Ronald Marler and is survived by Freddy Marler Jr., Thomas Marler, Allen Marler, and Susan Engle.
She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, unwavering loyalty, and the quiet way she made everyone around her feel loved. She found joy in life’s simple blessings, cherished her family deeply, and leaves behind a legacy of warmth, grace, and contentment that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on May 27, 2026, in the Llewellyn Funeral Home Chapel in Jellico, Tennessee, with Rev. Trey Brock officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 12:30 p.m.

Charlotte Francis Douglas, age 84, of Jellico, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Williamsburg Health and Rehabilitation in Williamsburg, Kentucky. She was born on October 13, 1941, in Campbell County, Tennessee. She lived most of her adult life in the Cincinnati and Reading area of Ohio working in the healthcare industry. She later moved to Jellico upon her retirement to be around family. Charlotte is preceded in death by her father, Floyd Marple, and her mother Sarah Amy Douglas; and stepfather Marshall “Boxie” Douglas; Brothers, Carl Marple, Earl Marple, Reece Marple, and Kenneth Marple; Sisters, Janice Marple, Linda Partin, and Amy Douglas Smith; Daughter in-law, June Douglas; and former husband Arthur “Humpy” Douglas.

Charlotte was the firstborn of her siblings and, until the time of her passing, was the last surviving among them. She carried the family’s memories until the end; remembering the life and love of a close-knit family.

Charlotte is survived by her son, Ray Douglas of Reading, Ohio; loving grandchildren, cousins, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Llewellyn Funeral Home Chapel in Jellico, TN from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by the funeral service officiated by Rev. James M. Hackler. Interment will be at Douglas Cemetery, Wooldridge, TN.
