The Emotional Journey After Diagnosis

It has been a rollercoaster.

Not the kind you choose…
The kind you’re suddenly on, heart open, memories rising, everything making sense all at once.

I am autistic.
A woman with high abilities.

And for most of my life…
I didn’t know.

I just thought I needed to try harder.
Be calmer.
Be less sensitive.
Be more like everyone else.

So I adapted.
I achieved.
I held everything together…

Even when inside, it felt like too much.

And then came the diagnosis.

With it… a wave I didn’t expect.

✨ A deep sense of relief, finally, an explanation.

✨ A quiet but powerful validation, I was never imagining it.

✨ But also… grief, for the younger version of me
who was trying so hard to be understood.

✨ Moments of anger, for everything I carried alone.

I find myself revisiting memories now…

“That wasn’t me being dramatic…
that was sensory overload.”

“I wasn’t difficult…
I was overwhelmed.”

And slowly, piece by piece…
I am rewriting my own story.

But above all…
there is hope.

Hope for a life that feels aligned.
Hope for a body that feels safe.
Hope for a way of living
where I no longer have to hide who I am to belong.

✨ The world is not “out there.” It begins within us.

The other day, while driving on a busy road here in Florida, I saw an older man… probably in his 70s.

He was carrying heavy bags.
The sun was intense.
His body already tired.

My heart sank.

But I was on the opposite lane… I couldn’t stop.
So I kept driving, trying to convince myself:
“Someone will help.”

I trusted in people’s hearts.

But something inside me wouldn’t settle.
A few minutes later, I turned around.

And there he was.
Still walking.
Still alone.
Still invisible.

That’s when I understood something far beyond that moment:

People are not bad… they are just not present.

We live distracted.
In the past.
In the future.
Lost in our own stories.

And meanwhile…
the world is happening.

And the truth is uncomfortable:

👉 It’s not only “big decisions” that shape the world.
👉 It’s the small daily omissions.

We wait for someone to do something.
For someone to speak up.
For someone to interrupt what is wrong.

But… what if that someone is you?

Because in the end…
it’s not about leaders, systems, or structures.

It’s about awareness.

It’s about presence.

It’s about choosing to see.

One day, it could be you under that sun.
Carrying more than you can handle.
Hoping someone will stop.

And the question is not:
“Why didn’t anyone do anything?”

How many times have we kept going?

Change doesn’t begin in the world.
