What does 'invisibility' feel like?
Imagine pouring your heart and soul into something, only to be met with silence or indifference. You feel like you're invisible, like your presence or contributions don't matter. It's a disheartening and demotivating experience that can make you question your worth and purpose.
To be seen is the opposite.
It feels like exhaling after holding your breath for too long.
To be seen feels like:
🦋 Safety in your body: your shoulders drop. Your jaw unclenches. You don’t have to perform or shrink. You can just BE, and that’s enough.
🌿 Recognition without explanation: Someone gets the thing you didn’t say out loud. The grief behind your eyes. The courage it took to show up today. No fixing, no solving — just “I see you.”
🙌 Permission: To take up space. To be messy. To be in process. You realize you don’t have to earn belonging.
🔥Warmth: Like someone pulled up a blanket you didn’t know you needed. It’s somatic. You feel it in your chest first.
🕉 Coming home: Especially in yoga, being seen means your teacher notices when you’re struggling and offers a block without making it a big deal. It’s the friend who saves you a spot in class. It’s being greeted by name or a simple smile.
Being seen helps us release the armor. We stop gripping so tight to who we think we should be, because someone just witnessed who we actually are — and stayed.
