Why Sober Support Networks Are a Clinical Priority, Not Just a Nice-to-Have

The research is clear: social support is one of the strongest predictors of sustained recovery outcomes. Yet it's often under-addressed until late in treatment planning.

At Beach House Center for Recovery, we build support network development into care from day one, not as an afterthought, but as a clinical priority alongside individual treatment planning.

What that looks like in practice:

• Sponsors:
Providing structured accountability rooted in peer recovery models
• Sober Peers:
Shared understanding that reduces isolation, a major relapse risk factor
• Licensed Clinicians:
Guiding the clinical and therapeutic work of healing
• Family Involvement:
Engaged appropriately, with boundaries respected and supported

Our campus-based model integrates group therapy, structured aftercare planning, and an active alumni network so patients aren't leaving treatment to build relationships from scratch, they're leaving with a foundation already in place.

For our referral partners, this integration point really matters: patients with stronger post-treatment support structures are better positioned for long-term stability, which benefits everyone involved in their care continuum.

We've put together a deeper look at how we approach this:

Please join us in welcoming Kyle Fatigante to the Beach House Center for Recovery Business Development Team!

Kyle brings over 15 years of dedicated experience improving access to primary mental health and addiction treatment for veterans. He has worked hand-in-hand with VA medical centers, Community Care teams, nonprofit partners, referral sources, and countless families to build clearer, faster pathways to care for veterans facing substance use, trauma, and the invisible wounds so many carry home after service.

His unwavering commitment to this mission even led him to Capitol Hill, where he met with members and staff from both the House and Senate Veterans' Affairs Committees to advocate for the veterans who so often struggle to access timely, appropriate treatment.

For Kyle, this work has never been about paperwork or process. It's about people.

"Behind every referral is a story. Behind every authorization is a person. Behind every veteran seeking treatment is someone's son, daughter, spouse, parent, friend, or battle buddy. That perspective stays with me every day and motivates me, always."

Kyle's role is about building bridges between veterans and treatment, between families and answers, between community partners and a place they can trust. It's a perspective that fits seamlessly into who we are at Beach House.

Welcome to the team, Kyle. We're thrilled to have you, and we know the veterans and families you serve have a true advocate with you in their corner.

This is just one more way we're reinforcing our ongoing commitment to connecting this very special group of people to the treatment and care they need.

Happy 4th of July from all of us at Beach House Center for Recovery.

This year's celebration carries extra meaning, as our nation marks 250 years of independence - 250 years of resilience, reinvention, and the belief that a better tomorrow is always possible.

That belief is at the heart of what we do every day. Recovery, like freedom, isn't given once and forgotten, it's chosen, protected, and fought for, one day at a time. We're honored to walk alongside the individuals and families who make that choice, and to be part of their journey toward a life defined by hope rather than by struggle.

As you gather with loved ones today, we hope you'll take a moment to celebrate not just our country's independence, but the personal freedom so many are working hard to reclaim.

Enjoy and make lots of memories!

Today, we're proud to introduce Christopher Rescigno, our Culinary Director, whose journey from the kitchens of Philadelphia to the heart of healthcare is nothing short of inspiring.

“I wake up every morning genuinely excited to come to work, and I never take that for granted.

Growing up in Philadelphia, food was never just sustenance. It was woven into the fabric of family, community, and connection. One walk through the Reading Terminal Market tells you everything you. Baseball carried me through college, but it was the energy of the kitchen, and my passion for creating and discovering new cuisines that ultimately won my heart.

After relocating to Florida and completing my culinary education at the Florida Culinary Institute, I spent years building my craft, eight years managing food and beverage at a marina and yacht club, and four years as a personal chef and mate aboard a private motor yacht. I loved every chapter of it.

When I entered the addiction and recovery field, something shifted in me. The food I prepared was no longer just about flavor or presentation; it became part of someone's healing. A nourishing, thoughtfully prepared meal may seem like a small gesture, but for someone in the early days of recovery, it can be a moment of comfort, dignity, and genuine hope. I felt that deeply, and in that moment, I knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be.

Now, as Executive Chef at Beach House Center for Recovery, I pour that same intention into everything I do. Whether I'm creating a single meal or an entire menu, my goal is always the same: to create an environment where people feel truly cared for, where they can breathe, and where healing feels possible.

The details matter deeply to me, because it is the details that build the entire experience for the client. My team and I pay particular attention to getting them right, because these everyday expressions of care are the clearest way we can honor the dignity of every person who walks through our doors.

I consider myself fortunate to have found my way here. And it is that deep sense of gratitude that drives me to show up fully, every single day, for the people who trust us with their care.

All The Right Ingredients: Ten Years of Jumel

Over the past few months, we've had the privilege of celebrating this milestone several times across our care family, each person representing ten years of dedication, loyalty, and heart. It is never lost on us how rare this is, and how lucky we are to have these people as part of our team - and what is says about the culture we have built here.

Today, we get to celebrate Jumel Maurisset.

With Jumel, it is hard to know where we even begin. Since day one he has given everything to his role, and ten years on, not a single thing has changed. He shows up every single day, without fail, without excuse, and brings his absolute best every single time. In a kitchen that never stops, he is the calm and steady constant that helps the kitchen run like a Swiss watch.

Along with Chef Chris, he helps lead the team with warmth and respect. He loves what he does, and it shows in every meal that leaves that kitchen. And perhaps what moves us most is that he understands, genuinely understands, the impact a lovingly prepared meal plays in someone's recovery - that is the kind of heart cannot be taught.

Outside of these walls, he is a passionate family man and devoted father to six daughters and still has the energy to give everything here. That’s says it all!
Thank you for being the heart of our kitchen, and a deeply member of our family.

Here is to the next 10!

A DECADE OF DEDICATION

Today, we're celebrating Chase Addy, our Director of Admissions here at Beach House Center for Recovery, on his incredible 10-year anniversary with our care family.

A tenure like Chase's doesn't happen by accident, it happens because of heart, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people we serve. He, without question has a special gift: the ability to meet people at their most vulnerable moment and make them feel seen, heard, and safe. At a time when someone is reaching out for help often for the very first time, Chase’s voice more often than not, has been on the other end of the line, the steady presence that guides them toward the care they need.

Ten years in, and his drive to elevate the patient experience at every single touchpoint is as strong as it was on day one. He challenges himself, challenges our processes, and consistently raises the bar for what compassionate, effective admissions looks like.

We are so proud to have you as part of the Beach House family, and we are grateful every day for the lives you have helped change.

Here's to 10 years, and to many more.

WEEK FOUR: Connection Is a Powerful Form of Care

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can offer someone isn't advice, or answers, or a solution. It's simply showing up.

When someone we love is navigating a mental health condition alongside substance use challenges, it can be hard to know what to say or do. We worry about saying the wrong thing. We hesitate. And sometimes, in that hesitation, they feel more alone than ever.

Here's what both the research and lived experience tells us: connection itself is medicine. Consistent, patient, non-judgmental presence can be the difference between someone reaching for help or retreating further into silence.

You don't have to have all the answers. You just have to stay.

And when the moment comes that more support is needed than you can give alone, know that professional help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, because a mental health crisis doesn't keep office hours.

Call or text 988 from anywhere in the U.S. to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

At Beach House Center for Recovery, we're proud to close out Mental Health Awareness Month alongside Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) with this reminder: recovery doesn't happen in isolation, and neither does healing.

WEEK 3: Words Matter & Words Can Heal

Language shapes everything. The words we choose around mental health can either open a door or close one. They can encourage someone to reach out — or convince them to suffer quietly.

At Beach House Center for Recovery, we believe that talking about mental health with honesty and compassion isn't just good communication, it's an integral part of the healing process itself.

Mental health touches every one of us. Directly, or through someone we love. That means we all have a role to play in how we talk about it, at the dinner table, in the workplace, on social media, and in the moments when someone quietly says "I'm fine" and maybe isn't.

Some small shifts that can make a big difference:

• Say "living with" rather than "suffering from"
• Lead with curiosity, not judgment
• Ask "how are you really doing?" and mean it

This month, we're proud to stand alongside Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in championing conversations that heal rather than harm.

This week, we are proud to shine a light on Cristina Walker and the powerful 'why' that drives her dedication to guiding individuals and families toward healing and recovery.

“I've watched people I love struggle with substance use. I've seen the way addiction can quietly unravel a family, leaving behind confusion, heartbreak, and a desperate hope for healing and recovery. Those experiences never left me. Instead, they became the cornerstones of everything I do and they're the reason I show up every day with my whole heart and ready.

As the Assistant Director of Nursing and Yoga Instructor here at Beach House Center for Recovery, I have the incredible privilege of walking alongside people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. What I witness here firsthand is incredible, the courage, the breakthroughs, the transformation, it moves me every single time.

I also passionately believe in the body's ability to heal and recover. Not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually too, this belief is at the core of everything I do. My approach has always been rooted in the connection between mind, body, and spirit, because true recovery, in my experience, can't happen without honoring all three.

It is this belief structure that's what led me to Bali, in 2015, where I completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. It was a transformative experience on so many levels, that deepened my understanding of mindfulness, movement, and the profound stillness that lives beneath the chaos of our thoughts.

Yoga has without question or hesitation changed my life. It gave me tools to find peace when everything felt uncertain, and I feel truly honored to offer those same tools to the people in our care.

Two phrases guide everything I do: presence is the best present, and movement is medicine. They're simple, but they say everything. Recovery happens in the now. And healing begins when we start to move toward ourselves, toward hope, toward life”.
