Last week we celebrated National Nursing Home Week with a visit from WMU's Buster Bronco, a presentation by Mason Jar Plant Shop, an Exotic Bird Show with owner Denise, balloon art, and a visit from Open Arms Petting Zoo including sheep, bunnies and a goat! We also played a fun game of Granny Panties! 😁 Special thanks to our dedicated staff who take such wonderful care of our amazing residents.

A proud moment for our Friendship Village family 💙

Named in honor of one of our very own residents, Judge William Schma—Michigan’s first drug treatment court judge—the William Schma House will bring a new recovery housing community to Kalamazoo, creating safe, supportive homes for individuals rebuilding their lives.

We’re reminded through projects like this that access to safe, stable housing is essential—for every stage of life and every member of our community. As Judge Schma shared, “we are fortunate to live in a community that fosters the civic values which encourage and support projects of this nature.”

We’re grateful to be surrounded by individuals who continue to lead with purpose and make a meaningful difference, both within our Village and far beyond.

Join us in celebrating Judge Schma and this important step forward for Kalamazoo.

Named after Michigan’s first drug treatment court judge, the nearly $22 million William Schma House will feature three buildings and offer 48 affordable homes paired with services to connect residents to counseling, care, and recovery support.

Their dedication is one of the many reasons FVK is a place people choose to live and be a part of this amazing team. Last week, we hosted our annual "Pump It For Parkinson's" event! Residents and team members came together in this nationwide initiative, hosted by the National Institute for Fitness and Sport in partnership with NuStep, to highlight the importance of exercise for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease.

The results are in, and we rocketed past our goal of 1,000,000 steps. Our total combined steps from Residents and Staff came out to 1,371,286 steps!!!

Here's the breakdown for how we achieved such a monumental number:

Walking – 1,120,790
NuSteps – 250,496

People – 179 total participants
109 residents, 60 staff, and 10 friends & family

Thank you to everyone who came out to support your friends and neighbors living with Parkinson’s disease. Your steps and your support matter so much, and we can’t thank you enough!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Our Kiva auditorium was buzzing as the local band, Whisky Before Breakfast, filled the air with lively Irish jigs and reels while residents enjoyed traditional Irish coffee and refreshments.
