A question that often comes up when patients see families bringing their babies to our office:

ā€œHow much pressure do you use on a newborn?ā€

Here’s the honest answer:

A neuroscientist spent 20 years studying the brain and found something that honestly should scare a lot of people…

When you write by hand, your brain lights up. Memory centers. Learning centers. Sensory processing. Different parts of the brain communicating with each other all at once.

When you type… much of that activity disappears. Same word. Same person. Completely different brain response.

And the reason makes perfect sense when you think about it. Writing forces the brain to slow down and work. Every letter is a different movement. Your eyes, fingers, wrist, memory, and spatial awareness are all coordinating together in real time.

Typing is mostly repetition. Same motion over and over. And maybe that explains why people today consume massive amounts of information but retain almost none of it.

They can listen to podcasts all day.Scroll motivational clips for hours.Type pages of notes in meetings.Read books while highlighting every sentence.

But very little actually sticks. Because the brain never fully engaged with it.

The researchers also found the people writing notes by hand learned more because they couldn’t write fast enough to copy everything word for word. They had to actually think about what mattered.

That’s the part most people miss. The filtering is the learning.

Maybe the reason so many people feel mentally scattered today is because we’ve removed too much friction from the process. Everything became fast, convenient, and instant… but depth got lost somewhere along the way.

Pick up a pen again. Write the goals, lessons and vision down.

If your cortisol is high…
your body thinks you’re in danger.

Not busy.
Not overwhelmed.

And your body will prioritize survival over:
