The good news? Change is possible. Recovery is possible.

Understanding the reality of addiction helps break down stigma, encourages honest conversations, and reminds us that seeking help is a sign of strength not weakness.

June is Pride Month in the United States, a time to remember history, celebrate how far we’ve come in advancing the rights of LGBTQ+ people. There are a lot of reasons why a person will or will not reach out for help when they are in trouble. The decision to seek assistance is completely up to the individual. Recovery starts when someone finally sees the person behind the struggle.

For years, addiction defined his story. At Hina Mauka, she found something different a safe space, compassionate support, and people who treated her with dignity.

Today, she celebrates 1 year and 6 months of sobriety.

Stories like this remind us that recovery is possible when people are met with understanding, evidence-based care, and hope.
