Our 390-bed medical center in Kansas City, Missouri, serves pediatric patients from a 150-county area spanning both Missouri and Kansas.

In partnership with Children's Mercy and Mercy Hospital Springfield, the Springfield-Greene County Park Board, is excited to bring a new, bi-weekly campaign that highlights local youth athletes in Parks!

This weeks Athlete of the Week is Courtlan Murrey, a skateboarder at the Springfield Skate Park. Courtlan is an excellent candidate for this nomination due to his dedication, discipline and sportsmanship in the sport of skateboarding. He consistently demonstrates respect for other riders, staff, and the facility, setting a positive example for those around him. Since beginning his skateboarding journey, Courtlan has shown tremendous improvement and continues to develop his skills through hard work, perseverance, and a genuine passion for the sport. His continued growth is also supported by his father's commitment to bringing him to the Skate Park and encouraging his progress. Courtlan represents the positive values of skateboarding and demonstrates the dedication, respect, and sportsmanship that make him deserving of this recognition.

Her dedication to creating a positive, supportive and inclusive environment, along with her passion and enthusiasm for basketball is contagious to all around.

We have learned that ACA Marketplace coverage will change effective on Jan. 1, 2027, and we know families have questions and concerns about what this may mean for their child’s coverage.

Children’s Mercy wants to participate in ACA Marketplace networks serving our area. However, the health plans have chosen not to include Children’s Mercy as an in-network provider. This was not a decision made by Children’s Mercy.

We encourage families to contact their insurer to understand their coverage and available options. Children’s Mercy will also help families with potential options for accessing care when their plan is out of network. Families with concerns about their insurance network may also contact the Kansas Department of Insurance or Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance to advocate for better pediatric insurance coverage.

As a non-profit pediatric hospital, we will continue advocating for meaningful access to the specialized care children need.

Nearly 10 years ago, Dayna helped save Tori's life without ever seeing her face-to-face. ❤️

Yesterday, that changed when Dayna and Tori met for the first time.

As a teenager undergoing cancer treatment at Children's Mercy, Tori received more than a dozen blood transfusions. Now, she's in remission and works for Community Blood Center helping others access the same lifesaving gift she once needed.

Their reunion was a powerful reminder that behind every blood donation is a person, a story and a life changed. ✨
