⚾ 🏈 If there were a Hall of Fame for determination, Jaxson would be a first-ballot inductee.

The 11-year-old from Webb City, Mo. can talk Royals baseball, Chiefs football and sports memorabilia with just about anyone. He's never met a stranger, loves helping other families and has even turned his passion for sports into opportunities for other kids to attend games and create special memories.

What many people don't see is the remarkable journey behind that smile.

Since age 3, Jaxson has been fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), facing years of treatment, multiple relapses, innovative therapies and a bone marrow transplant at Children's Mercy. Through it all, he never stopped being a kid, a sports fan or someone who looks for ways to lift up others.

For the first time, your local Parks was able to put together our own 10U baseball team sponsored by Children's Mercy and Mercy Hospital Springfield. ⚾️❤️

Park Board Futures is a beginner/recreational, instructional program focusing on developing baseball's fundamentals for area kids that might not have a team to play for. Moving forward, we hope to expand this program by putting together more teams at different age levels. We would like to thank Children's Mercy and Mercy Hospital Springfield for being our inaugural team sponsor!

Home can play a big role in a child’s health. 🏠 ❤️ That’s why Children’s Mercy is committed to caring for kids not only inside our hospital walls, but in the communities and neighborhoods where they live, learn and grow.

Thanks to a one-year, $300,000 Nonprofit Partnership Grant from Jackson County - Missouri our Healthy Homes Program will be able to provide education, free home assessments and healthy kits for 50 local families. For children with asthma, complex medical conditions or chronic diseases, reducing environmental hazards like mold, lead, smoke, dust and pests can help create safer spaces and support better health.

Congratulations to our Office for Community Impact team on this grant and on their continued work to help children breathe easier, stay healthier and thrive at home. 🎉

"This program has changed our family forever."

Kids with emotional and behavioral challenges — and their parents — are finding hope through the Partial Hospital Program at Children’s Mercy. Just 1 year old, the PHP tailors its wide range of therapies and services to each patient’s needs.

Kids spend 6 to 12 weeks at the daily program to build coping skills and work toward goals. The team integrates kids’ favorite hobbies into treatment (yep, there are now Minecraft experts on staff) and follows up with families after “graduation” with regular check-ins and support groups.

“I think that is our biggest win: Helping families feel they are connected,” said the PHP’s Dr. Elizabeth Willen. “They have a community now that is going to be on the journey with them.”

Every kid deserves the chance to just be a kid. 💛

To run around. Get messy. Laugh too loud. But for some kids, cancer gets in the way of those everyday moments.

The good news? Helping during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month doesn't have to be overwhelming. A small donation, a lemonade stand, a kindness challenge or simply sharing information can make a difference.

Health care workers bring so much heart, skill and strength to their work every day, while also carrying pressure, heartbreak, long days and the emotional weight of showing up for others.

On Physician Su***de Awareness Day, several local hospitals will pause in reflection and support. The event will include words from leaders and a moment of silence as we honor the mental health challenges physicians and care teams may face and stand together for wellbeing, compassion and hope.

This event is open to anyone from Children’s Mercy, UMKC School of Medicine and University Health KC. Those not in attendance are encouraged to pause wherever you are and join the moment of silence. Together, we can help break the stigma and show support for the more than 350+ physicians and residents who die by su***de each year.

Karli is used to younger kids asking about her purple leg braces and her “battle scars,” the long incisions on her legs from surgeries she had as a child. But she doesn’t mind. 💜

“When I tell people about my surgeries, they think it’s pretty awesome and wild,” she laughed.

Karli started the summer with an innovative spinal surgery called selective dorsal rhizotomy, which helped address some of the challenges with her legs caused by cerebral palsy. During her five-week recovery in our Inpatient Rehabilitation program, she amazed her parents and medical team with her determination, positive attitude and ability to make things fun. Along the way, she became a role model for younger patients.
