There’s no single “brain exercise” that makes kids smarter. 🧠 Our Parent-ish blog explains hows kids’ brains grow through everyday life — talking, reading, moving and play. Especially from birth to age 5, experiences shape which brain connections stick around. Good news: if you're talking, reading and playing with them, you're already doing the work 💛 Read more: https://cmkc.link/4dYZXPZ

In partnership with Children's Mercy and Mercy Hospital Springfield, the Springfield-Greene County Park Board, is excited to bring a new, bi-weekly campaign that highlights local youth athletes in Parks!

Our very first Athlete of the Week is Max Blaylock! Playing for our Futures 10U baseball team at our Cooper and Killian complexes. Max always shows up with a positive attitude and a team-first mindset. He is supportive and encouraging to his teammates and is always willing to play any position needed to help the team succeed.

Pass those palm trees, please! 🌴 It’s time to bring a little vacay the Children’s Mercy way for kids and teens that spend time with us this summer. Our little island was filled with seashells, sand, beach houses and balls so for those that can’t go, they can still dip a toe.

Thanks to Good Cheer volunteers, it was a sunny day of play. ☀️ We sure hope it brought a few rays to their day!

It’s hard to put into words just how much your support this past month meant. 💙

Make A Difference May is behind us, but our gratitude continues.

Thank you to every business, supporter and community champion who helped make a difference throughout the month. Your support helps ensure children and families receive the care they need — now and in the future.

We took a little time yesterday to celebrate someone who’s already been hard at work. 🐾

Benny, our new facility dog, has been part of the Children’s Mercy Kansas team for a few months now—bringing comfort and calm to our hospital. Staff gathered to celebrate him alongside our friends at Dunkin' Joy In Childhood Foundation, who help make his role possible through the Dogs for Joy program. They also surprised us with an over $98,000 gift, plus a new bed, toys, coffee and donuts to share.

Safe to say… Benny is very loved. 💙

If Cate had a theme song, it might just be “Survivor.” 💪

Born premature, placed into foster care and diagnosed with leukemia before her first birthday, Cate faced challenges that would stop most people in their tracks. Instead, her journey led her to expert, compassionate care at Children’s Mercy — and to a forever family with one of our physicians.

Today, Cate is thriving. Strong. Joyful. And living proof that resilience, love and an incredible care team can change everything. 💛💙

Songs for survivors. Amazing auction bids. Music that brought an entire arena to its feet. And millions of dollars that will make a difference for kids and families.

Big Slick 2026 was a weekend to remember, and we can’t thank our hosts, guests and supporters enough for the impact they had. Together, Big Slick KC events raised over $4.2 million for pediatric cancer research and care in KC and beyond. Thanks to generous donations through Big Slick, Children’s Mercy is a world leader in personalized pediatric cancer treatment, using genomic sequencing to tailor therapies for each child—bringing faster answers, safer treatments and real hope for cures.

This homegrown circus is leaving town, but we’ll remember their magic every day until we meet again next year. ✨🎪💙

The smiles never stopped. Throughout Big Slick weekend, our patients have been surrounded by laughter, connection and moments that felt a little lighter thanks to our incredible celeb guests who brought their own kind of wonder to the bedside.

From hallway hellos to one-on-one visits, these moments aren’t just fun—they’re a reminder to our kids and families that they’re seen, supported and never alone in their journey.

And the impact goes far beyond today. Every moment, visit and event throughout Big Slick KC helps fuel something bigger: advancing research and care for kids who need it most.
