David Rock Smith, 93, of Carthage, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2026, at his home at 4:28 PM.

David was born March 15, 1933, the son of David Galbraith and Alice (Rock) Smith in Keokuk, Iowa. He graduated from Carthage High School in 1951 and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1956. David was a lifelong farmer in Hancock County and the fifth generation of his family to reside at the family home.

David is survived by his sons, David K. (Tara) Smith of Lakewood, Colorado and Michael Frederick Smith of Boulder, Colorado; grandchildren, Jordan (Tyler) Wallace and Logan Smith.

He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Scott Smith; and a sister, Lucia Smart.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, July 31, 2026, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Burial will follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery with military rites by the United States Navy and Hancock County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Tunnels for Towers Foundation. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
