I absolutely adore our research-grade InBody, although I got a little FOMO this weekend seeing another clinic’s newer model. 😂

BUT I’ve been playing with our new touchscreen and this feature is SO FUN.

One thing I’ve never loved about body composition “goals” is that they’re ultimately calculations based on a model. And sometimes the recommendation is basically: lose more fat.

But that’s not always what I want for you.

Sometimes I’d rather see you KEEP some fat and build more muscle.

Now I can actually play with those numbers right on the screen.

What happens to your body fat percentage if you gain 5 lbs of muscle?

What if you lose 5 lbs of fat?

What combination gets you to the actual body composition and LOOK you’re trying to achieve?

That’s especially helpful for my leaner clients, because sometimes the answer isn’t “get smaller.” It’s BUILD.

And speaking of data… my last month and a half:

🔥 Down 4.1 lbs overall
🔥 Down 5 lbs of fat
💪 UP 1.3 lbs of muscle
🔥 Visceral fat down 1.2 levels
📈 Phase angle UP 0.5
🔥 Body fat down almost 3%

And I’m not out here hitting PR after PR.

I’m being CONSISTENT.

That’s the magic.

"I eat well, I work out, I do everything right — and the scale still won't move."

I hear this a lot, and I want to be honest: sometimes the problem isn't effort, it's information. If your metabolism, thyroid, cortisol, or hormones are working against you, no amount of willpower fixes that alone. You can out-discipline a lot of things. You cannot out-discipline an undiagnosed thyroid issue.

This is exactly why I don't hand out generic meal plans. We run the labs, find what's actually going on, and coaching builds a plan around YOUR biology — not a magazine cover.

Your body isn't broken. It might just be misunderstood. ❤️

Comment LABS and let's find out what your body's actually been dealing with.

One of the most overlooked parts of hormone health is metabolic health.

I’ll sit down with someone who’s already on hormone replacement therapy, but they’re still having symptoms. And they’re confused because their friend is taking “the exact same thing” and feels amazing.

But hormones don’t work in isolation.

Your liver has to metabolize them. Your gut plays a role in what gets eliminated versus recirculated. Your nutritional status, insulin sensitivity, inflammation, thyroid function, and overall metabolic health can all influence how your body responds.

People sometimes think of hormone therapy like a recipe:

“Maybe I just need a little more estrogen.”
“Maybe I need more testosterone.”
“Maybe we should increase the progesterone.”

I think of it more like plumbing.

You put something into the system. It moves through pathways, gets converted, metabolized, used, and eventually cleared.

And if those pathways aren’t working well, simply putting MORE into the system may not give you the result you’re looking for. Sometimes you just end up with a bigger mess.

That’s why good hormone care isn’t just about asking:

What are your hormone levels?

It’s also asking:

What is your body doing with those hormones once we put them in?

Hormones are part of the system. Treat the system.

We live in a world that rewards specialization.

And I’m a generalist on purpose.

I love genetics. Functional medicine. Prevention. Nutrition. Exercise. Metabolic health. Hormones. Longevity. Data.

But what I really love is connecting the dots between all of them.

Because humans don’t live in specialties.

Real life looks like grandbabies crying in the background while I’m meal prepping on Sunday, trying to make something healthy that everybody will actually eat.

It looks like asking:

What does my data tell me?

What are my biggest risks?

What would actually move the needle?

And of ALL the things I could work on, what can I realistically focus on this week?

Because you cannot optimize everything at once.

And I don’t want to wait until something is significant enough that I need a specialist before I start paying attention to it.

Specialists are incredibly valuable when we need them.

But prevention needs someone willing to zoom out.

Someone looking across your labs, genetics, family history, lifestyle, environment, symptoms, goals, resources and actual life and saying:

Here’s where you are.
Here’s where you want to go.
Here are the few things that matter most right now.

Then we measure. Learn. Adjust. And keep moving.

That’s the kind of healthcare I want.

Not perfect health.

Not more things to do.

A guide who can connect the dots and help you build health in the middle of your actual life.

That’s why I’m a generalist.

Genetic testing is fascinating, but your genes are NOT your destiny.

When we’re talking about long-term wellness, though, I do think understanding genetic risk can give us another piece of the puzzle.

Take Parkinson’s disease.

We still don’t fully understand why one person develops Parkinson’s and another doesn’t. Genetics can contribute to risk, but so can environmental exposures, inflammation, aging and many other factors.

One area I find particularly interesting is metal metabolism, especially iron and copper.

Both are essential. We NEED them. But how we absorb, transport, utilize and store them matters, and genetics can influence some of those pathways.

That doesn’t mean a genetic variant causes Parkinson’s. It also doesn’t mean that a high serum iron or copper level tells us what is happening inside the brain.

It means we may be able to identify vulnerabilities earlier and pay closer attention to the things we actually can measure and modify over a lifetime.

That’s what I love about genetics.

Not: “Your genes say you’re going to get this disease.”

More like: “Here are some places where your biology may need a little more attention.”

Genes are one piece. Environment is another. Lifestyle is another. Exposure is another.

And the earlier we understand the pieces, the more intentionally we can care for the whole person. Comment and I’ll send you a link to my fav at home cost effective genetics kit.

My friend’s Finnish sauna is AMAZING. 🔥

And I had to step out. 😂

It’s over 160°F, and I’m not adapted to that kind of heat yet. But that’s the point: I don’t need to suffer longer to get a response.

Sweating isn’t the goal. Freezing in a cold plunge isn’t the goal either.

The goal is enough stress to make your body respond, followed by repeated exposure that allows it to adapt.

Hot enough. Cold enough. Long enough.

Then let your body do what it was designed to do: adapt.

We’re building a resilient, strong, healthy, adaptable body. That’s the goal.

Take the trip. Do the thing.

Your responsibilities will always be there, asking you for more.

There will always be another bill to pay.
Another problem to solve.
Another person who needs you.
Another reason why now isn’t the “responsible” time.

But if you always say yes to responsibility and never say yes to fun, you end up with a pretty lame life, in my opinion.

You don’t have to earn every moment of joy by finishing everything first.

Sometimes you just have to say yes to being alive.

Take the trip. Do the thing. 🌈🦄

When I first started nursing, I thought a metabolic panel was basically how we assessed nutrition.

Because that’s what we tested in the hospital.

Then I started taking care of my own patients and actually digging into nutritional deficiencies, and… oh my gosh. It is SO much more complicated than that.

What’s in your serum doesn’t necessarily tell us what’s getting into your red blood cells.

And what’s in your blood doesn’t necessarily tell us what’s getting into your tissues or being metabolized appropriately.

Then you add genetics, diet, absorption, medications, environmental factors, lifestyle and how nutrients interact with each other.

It becomes this incredibly complex puzzle:

What are you deficient in?
Why are you deficient?
Is it intake, absorption, transport, utilization or increased demand?
And what actually needs to change?

It takes time to put those pieces together.

But honestly, it’s one of my favorite parts of my work.

Finding the pattern, figuring out the why, and then helping someone build a lifestyle that actually improves it.

I could nerd out on this all day. 😂

“Spring, I want to get well, but $500 a month is a lot.”

You’re right. It is.

And I’m not going to pretend $500 isn’t a significant investment.

But I want you to consider something:

We are willing to rally an entire team around someone once they’re sick. Once the diagnosis comes. Once the blood pressure is out of control. Once they’re diabetic. Once they’re exhausted, inflamed, medicated, or in crisis.

What if we rallied the team sooner?

When you’re tired every afternoon.
When you’re waking up at 3 a.m.
When your digestion changes.
When your blood pressure starts creeping up.
When your labs start shifting.
When you don’t feel like yourself anymore.

Your body usually whispers before it screams.

And the earlier you change course, the smaller the correction has to be.

That’s what we’re building at Exceptional Wellness.

Not dependency.

The goal is to educate, equip, and empower you to understand your body, know what moves the needle, build the skills to care for yourself, and have the right support while you do it.

There are incredible health optimization programs around the country costing tens of thousands of dollars. I wanted to build something that brings comprehensive assessment, testing, coaching, education, and support closer to ordinary people.

Is $500/month accessible to everyone? No.

And someone who can’t afford it isn’t failing to prioritize their health.

But if you can invest in yourself and you’ve been waiting for permission to make your health a priority, consider what could happen if you committed to yourself for one quarter.

Don’t wait for crisis to assemble the team.

Change course while the correction is still small.

We all know something about healthcare has to change.

I say change it on your terms.
