What should I wear to a funeral?
Mourning attire has drastically evolved over the years. Modern culture has created a gray area of what type of clothing is appropriate for a farewell service. No matter what you decide to wear, the number one priority is to remain respectful. Clothes should never be revealing or contain explicit content.

Sometimes the family will request specific attire they would like guests to wear to show respect to their lost loved one, like their loved one’s favorite color or sports jersey. If you have any doubts about what is acceptable to wear to the service, traditional and conservative black, gray, or navy attire is typically a safe choice.

Joseph L. Dean, III
Owner | Licensed Funeral Director, Embalmer, & Cremationist

Born in Columbus, Georgia and reared in Chambers County Alabama, Joseph is the owner of Valley-Point Funeral Home and is a licensed Funeral Director, Embalmer, and Cremationist.

Joseph attended Lee-Scott Academy, Southern Union, Auburn University, and Jefferson State Mortuary School. Joseph is married to Kimberly Dean, An attorney in Opelika, Alabama, they have three sons ranging in age from 5 to 13 years. They live on the family farm in Chambers county that has been in their family since 1832.

Joseph also owns and operates Frederick-Dean Funeral Home and Crematory in Opelika Alabama which was founded in 1900 and has been serving the residents of East Alabama for 124 years.

Joseph believes it is necessary to treat every family with kindness, compassion, sincerity, and respect in order to walk with them step by step in this most difficult time.

Evelyn Joyce Estes, 90, of Lanett, Alabama passed away Thursday, August 20, 2026.

Joyce was born in Chambers County, AL on June 23, 1936. She devoted her life to caring for her family and creating a home filled with love. She faithfully attended Lanier Baptist Church, where she loved her church family as well.

There will be a graveside service on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett, AL, at 11:00 AM EST. Bro. Bill King will be officiating.

Services have been entrusted to Valley-Point Funeral Services of Lanett, AL.

Donal Nolan Mathena, Jr. passed from this life to receive his eternal reward on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at Compassus Bethany House in Auburn AL.

Funeral services are as follows (all times are Eastern):

Visitation September 30, 2026 at 7:00 PM at Point Funeral Home and Cremation, Valley AL with Rosary to follow at 8:00 PM

Interment at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, AL October 1, 2026 at 11 AM

In lieu of flowers the Family requests donations to Compassus Bethany House, 1171 Gatewood Dr Blg 100, Auburn, AL 36830
