BREAKING: Treadmill running just became a world championship sport 🤯

World Athletics and Technogym have confirmed RUN X, the first ever World Treadmill Championship. It's a 5K race that anyone can enter, with a $100,000 prize pool and wild card entries to the World Road Running Championships on the line.

How it works:

Qualification opens October 2026 through January 2027. Anyone can race as many 5Ks as they want on a registered Technogym treadmill at an affiliated gym or hotel. Results upload automatically to a live global leaderboard.

Top performers in each country and age group then advance to regional finals in early 2027. The world finals run March 20-21, 2027 at Technogym Village in Cesena, Italy. Top 10 men and top 10 women across seven age categories race for the inaugural title.

Technogym is in over 50,000 fitness centres across 120 countries. That's the largest connected treadmill network in the world.

Age groups run from 18-23 to 75 and above, with champions and prize money in every division.
