Advancing cardiovascular care in Pinellas County ❤️

At HCA Florida Largo Hospital, our cardiovascular team is helping bring advanced treatment options closer to home for patients with complex aortic conditions.

Our team recently performed one of Pinellas County’s first physician-modified endograft (PMEG) procedures, a specialized, minimally invasive treatment that uses a customized stent graft to fit a patient's anatomy while preserving blood flow to vital organs.

Vascular surgeon Dariam Cardentey, MD, and interventional cardiologist Merrill Krolick, DO, collaborated to complete the complex procedure in approximately 75 minutes, demonstrating the specialized expertise, advanced technology and teamwork behind the care we provide.

This milestone reflects our commitment to delivering innovative, patient-centered cardiovascular care and expanding access to advanced treatment options in our community.

When every second counts, preparation matters.

As a Comprehensive Stroke Center, HCA Florida Largo Hospital provides advanced care for patients experiencing stroke. But that care doesn’t begin at the hospital doors.

From the moment a 911 call is made, firefighters and paramedics begin assessing the situation and sharing important information with the hospital. Inside the ER, nurses, doctors and stroke specialists prepare to evaluate the patient and determine the next steps in care.

That coordination helps the care team move quickly and ensures important information follows the patient from the field to the hospital.

These photos offer a behind-the-scenes look at how first responders and hospital teams work together as part of a coordinated stroke response.

Different roles. One shared goal: helping patients get the care they need as quickly as possible.

If you think someone may be experiencing a stroke, call 911.

When a stroke happens, care can begin before a patient reaches the hospital.

Recognizing the signs of stroke and calling 911 right away can help emergency responders begin coordinating care on the way to the hospital. Paramedics and firefighters play an important role in that response, assessing patients, communicating with the hospital and helping our teams prepare for what may be needed when the patient arrives.

At HCA Florida Largo Hospital, our emergency and stroke teams value the close partnership we share with local EMS and fire departments. Their quick response, communication and coordination are an important part of helping connect patients to time-sensitive stroke care.

Know the warning signs of stroke. If symptoms such as sudden facial drooping, arm weakness or difficulty speaking occur, call 911.

We’re grateful for the first responders who work alongside our teams to help care begin from the first call for help.

For Vicki, caring for patients means being there for their families, too. 🧡💙

As a Clinical Nurse Coordinator in Pre-Admission Testing and Patient Care Experience, Vicki has spent the past four years combining her passion for healthy living with her ability to connect with and care for others.

One of her favorite memories is helping a family stay calm during a serious situation. By walking them through what was happening and answering their questions, she was able to offer reassurance while they watched their loved one receive great care.

Those moments of connection are what Vicki loves most about her work, supporting patients and families when they need it most.

Outside of work, Vicki loves boating and spending time at the beach. ☀️🌊

For many people with blood cancer or other serious blood disorders, a blood stem cell or bone marrow transplant can offer hope — and it often starts with a donor.

According to the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, most patients who need a transplant don’t have a fully matched donor in their family and rely on NMDP (formerly Be The Match) to help find one. NMDP ℠ is a global nonprofit leader in cell therapy that helps save the lives of patients with blood cancers and disorders.

As part of HCA Healthcare, we're proud to support this life-saving work through the Sarah Cannon Transplant and Cellular Therapy Network — one of the nation's leading providers of unrelated bone marrow donor transplants in the U.S. Each year, this extensive network helps connect tens of thousands of patients with the care they need.

After seeking care, Pala learned she had high-grade myelodysplastic syndrome, a condition that can progress to an aggressive blood cancer called acute leukemia. Her search for treatment options brought her to the Sarah Cannon Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital, where she met Dr. Zeina Al-Mansour and team.

“I am so grateful that I was able to find this place and this team, because they saved my life,” Pala said. “They gave me a future. I’ll be able to see my grandchildren grow up. I’ll be able to see them graduate. I am just so grateful.”

During Blood Cancer Awareness Month, Pala’s story reflects the specialized expertise and advanced treatment options available through our transplant and cellular therapy team. Our colleagues are committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care with purpose and integrity.

This National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, we’re celebrating the determination of patients— like Cierra Anderson — and the care teams who help make meaningful progress possible.

After experiencing an unexpected and severe stroke at just 25-years old, Cierra began her recovery journey by undergoing a month of intensive rehabilitation at HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital Inpatient Rehabilitation. The center, which opened to the community in May 2026, provides specialized inpatient rehabilitation to support patients working to regain function and independence after serious illness or injury.

With the support of her rehabilitation care team — and plenty of determination — Cierra made significant progress. Today, she is walking and talking again. She recently marked another milestone by ringing the Champion’s Bell and graduating from the rehabilitation program.

During National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, we celebrate Cierra’s progress and the dedicated rehabilitation colleagues who help patients work toward their individual recovery goals every day.

As highly trained clinicians with advanced degrees, APPs bring deep expertise to patient care. At HCA Healthcare, we’re committed to advancing that expertise by investing more than $50 million in education and professional development annually — because supporting our colleagues means supporting better outcomes for our patients.

To all our APPs, thank you for the compassionate care you provide every day.

As a newly promoted EVS supervisor at 🏥 HCA Florida Memorial Hospital, Kwame helps create a clean, safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues while bringing a passion for empowering others to his work each day.

It is an excellent foundation for a fulfilling career.”

That drive to inspire others extends beyond the hospital. Outside of work, Kwame enjoys writing inspirational books and mentoring children through his church.

After three and a half years with HCA Healthcare, Kwame continues to grow his career while making a difference for those around him — showing how EVS can be a place to serve others, develop as a leader and build a meaningful career.
