Despite claims that ACA coverage has become unaffordable, the median enrollee pays just $42 a month for a plan with a $741 premium. Taxpayers cover 94% of the cost.

Even with the large jump in gross premiums from 2025 to 2026, the average subsidized enrollee paid only about $22 more per month. Nearly 90% of exchange enrollees receive subsidies. The market remains heavily subsidized.

🚨Massachusetts sued a UnitedHealth (UNH.N), opens new tab insurance unit on Friday, accusing it ‌of defrauding the state’s Medicaid program, MassHealth, out of more than $100 million by making older patients appear more seriously ill than they actually were.

Andrea Joy Campbell, the state’s attorney general, accused UnitedHealthcare Insurance of manipulating the health status of MassHealth members enrolled in its Senior Care Options plan in order to boost profit and advance its “growth-at-all-costs strategy.”

🚨Everyone talks about cutting sodium. Almost nobody talks about adding potassium. The evidence says the latter may be just as (if not more) important.

The mechanism is straightforward. Potassium does two things at once. It signals the kidney to excrete more sodium in urine by inhibiting a sodium reabsorption channel called NCC in the distal tubule. It also relaxes vascular smooth muscle directly by opening potassium channels in the arterial wall, which hyperpolarizes the muscle cells and reduces vascular tone. Two mechanisms, one ion.

Cutting sodium is fine if you do it. Adding potassium does something on its own.

🚨CVS Health and its subsidiaries allegedly diverted more than $66 million from Medicaid programming by giving incorrect prices to Michigan hospitals, according to a lawsuit filed Monday.

The hospitals allege CVS Health used its position as an intermediary between insurance and pharmacy companies, as well the administrator of 340B approvals, to “scam” the system in a “secret pricing scheme,” the complaint reads.

A spokesperson from CVS Health said the company does not comment on ongoing litigation but remains “focused on serving our customers and executing our business priorities.”

NEW: FDA Enforcement to stop 503B GLP-1 Compounding

The FDA published a warning letter to ProRx, a 503B compounding pharmacy specifically mentioning that 503Bs should not be compounding GLP-1s. The letter was just made public, but was initially sent to ProRx on April 7, 2026. They stopped making compounded GLP-1s on April 8.

What is different about this letter is that it directly calls out tirzepatide production not being covered under the 503B exception. “Based on this inspection, it appears you produced drugs that violate the FDCA.”

It also directly mentions seizure and injunction as the next steps in non-compliance. “You should take prompt action to address any violations. Failure to adequately address any violations may result in legal action without further notice, including, without limitation, seizure and injunction.” - FDA warning letter

🚨🚨🚨Breakthrough Treatments for Pancreatic Cancer

About 70,000 Americans are diagnosed annually with pancreatic cancer, and about 80% of them are diagnosed at a late stage. Many companies are working on developing better ways to screen for the disease, through blood tests that detect markers for multiple cancers, for example.

But for now, the five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer remains at a dismally low 13%, according to the American Cancer Society.

By comparison, immunotherapies, genetics and AI imaging have increased the five-year survival rate for cancers overall to 70%, even for previously lethal forms like skin and lung.

With similar breakthroughs under way for pancreatic cancers, researchers say treatment could transform within a couple of years.

The nursing profession has been supported and promoted by the American Nurses Association (ANA) since 1896. Each of ANA’s state and territorial nurses associations promotes the nursing profession at the state and regional levels. Each conducts celebrations on these dates to recognize the contributions that nurses and nursing make to the community.

The ANA supports and encourages National Nurses Week recognition programs through the state and district nurses associations, other specialty nursing organizations, educational facilities, and independent health care companies and institutions.
