Please join us in thanking Cans for the Community! The check they presented to Heartland today represents a grand total of $376,000 that they've donated to local non-profits. This is an incredible accomplishment and shows the hard work they've put in to improve our community through the years.

♻️ Recycling makes a difference. Volunteers collect aluminum cans for recycling from Cans for the Community bins at participating businesses in Douglas Country. All proceeds from recycling are donated to local non-profit organizations.

Meet Kelcy! As psychiatric care coordinator and nursing supervisor, She is the community partner contact for connecting patients to psychiatric care.

She is also a Registered Nurse (and up for an award with Best of Lawrence). Congrats Kelcy and thank you for everything you do to help our community get the psychiatry services they need. 💙

What does it mean to be a community leader? Is it setting a vision and leading a team? Or is it boots-on-the-ground helping people every day?

In the case of Jenn Kessler, it's both.

Over the past year, she has helped grow the reach of Heartland's Community Health Worker program by 97%. That means, thanks to Jenn, more people in our community are getting the healthcare, housing, food assistance, transportation, and other essential supports they need.

We can't think of anyone more deserving of recognition as a Community Leader. Congratulations, Jenn, on your Best of Lawrence nomination.

As many of you know, our community will be hosting Team Algeria this summer. This is an exciting opportunity for our town, but it also means we should prepare thoughtfully for the increased potential for travel-related illness.

While the risk of encountering rare, high-consequence infectious diseases remains very low, global travel does increase the likelihood that we may see illnesses or exposures that are less common in our region.

The most likely concerns remain the everyday illnesses and conditions including:
• Influenza and COVID-19
• Viral respiratory illnesses
• Gastrointestinal infections
• Dehydration and heat-related illness
• Minor injuries
• Measles exposures or suspected cases
• Other travel-associated infectious diseases

Measles deserves special mention because it is highly contagious and can spread quickly in communities where vaccination rates are low. Staying up to date on recommended vaccinations remains one of the most effective ways to protect yourself and those around you.

As always, our strongest protection is consistently using basic prevention practices like good hand hygiene, staying home when sick, and seeking medical care when needed.

Preparedness is not about fear. It is about maintaining awareness and using the systems and practices we already rely on every day. The same prevention measures that protect us during major events also help strengthen the health of our community year-round.

Hosting an international team is a unique opportunity for Lawrence. By staying informed and taking simple precautions, we can help ensure a safe and healthy summer for residents and visitors alike.

$6.7 million. That's how much patients saved on prescriptions last year by using River City Pharmacy. But what makes Heartland's in-house pharmacy truly special goes beyond saving people money on medications.

Through Clinical Pharmacy Services, patients work one-on-one with a clinical pharmacist to manage chronic conditions, optimize medications, and improve their health.

This personalized approach is helping patients achieve real results, including improved blood sugar control and lower blood pressure.

We recently came across this special footage of Dr. Luke Mueller sharing the story of what led him to medicine, including the moment he knew he wanted to dedicate his life to caring for others.

It's a story that began nearly 20 years ago and continues to shape the care he provides every day.
