Cross-Trained Associate (Receptionist / Ophthalmic Technician / Optical Apprentice)

Are you passionate about customer service, a fast learner, and someone who enjoys working with people? Vision Source is looking for a Cross-Trained Associate to help ensure every patient has an exceptional experience — from their first phone call to selecting eyewear and contact lenses.
As part of our team, you will help patients see and look their best while developing valuable skills that can build a long-term career in the optometric field. This role combines front desk coordination, hands-on clinical support for our doctors, and foundational training as an Optical Apprentice, learning frame styling, lens education, and optical measurements.
No optical experience required. We will train the right person who brings strong customer service skills, a positive attitude, and a desire to learn and grow.
Schedule:
4–5 full days per week
Typical hours between 7:50 AM – 5:00 PM
Key Responsibilities
In this cross-trained role, you will rotate between front desk operations, clinical pre-testing support, and optical apprentice training. Success in this position requires strong attention to detail, excellent patient communication, time management, and the ability to multitask while maintaining a high level of patient care and customer service.
Front Desk & Patient Experience
Answer phones, schedule appointments, and manage patient check-in and check-out
Verify patient insurance prior to appointments
Communicate appointment details and reminders to patients
Provide professional, efficient phone support to patients, vendors, and partners
Support phone sales and patient inquiries with confidence and urgency
Clinical & Technical Support
Perform pre-testing and take measurements using medical diagnostic instruments
Take precise optical measurements using appropriate optical tools
Maintain pre-testing rooms and medical equipment to cleanliness and operational standards
Document patient medical history and prepare charts for provider review
Optical Apprentice Training & Support
Learn frame styling and patient eyewear consultation skills
Assist with frame selection and lens education under supervision
Learn lens options including anti-reflective, blue light management, progressives, and occupational lenses
Support optical order processing and workflow
Maintain frame boards, displays, and optical inventory organization
Develop foundational optical knowledge for future career growth in optical sales or certification pathways

Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
1+ year retail or customer service experience preferred
Comfortable using computers, POS systems, phones, and basic math skills
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment
Reliable transportation
Schedule & Travel Requirements
Availability Monday – Friday between 7:45 AM – 5:30 PM
Ability to travel between Leavenworth and Wenatchee locations
