😎 SUN PROTECTION FRIDAY

Most people know sunscreen helps prevent sunburn.

But here’s something many don’t realize:

Sun damage is cumulative.

That means the sun exposure you get today adds to the exposure you’ve had your entire life.

One afternoon at the lake may not seem like much.

One afternoon working in the garden may not seem like much.

One baseball game.
One fishing trip.
One day on the tractor.

By themselves, they don’t seem significant.

But over years and decades, those hours add up.

That’s why protecting your skin isn’t just about avoiding a painful sunburn today.

It’s about protecting your future self.

☀️ Wear sunscreen.
🧢 Wear a hat.
🕶️ Protect your eyes.
💧 Stay hydrated.

Your future skin will thank you.

💬 What’s your favorite thing to do outside during the summer?

☀️ SUMMER HEALTH SERIES

When people think about dehydration, they often picture someone working outside in extreme heat.

But dehydration doesn’t always look like what you expect.

Sometimes it looks like:

😴 Feeling unusually tired
🤕 Headaches
😵 Dizziness
😤 Irritability
🧠 Difficulty concentrating

Many people begin experiencing mild dehydration before they ever feel thirsty.

Kentucky summers can be hot, humid, and unforgiving.

Whether you’re gardening, fishing, mowing, working on the farm, or cheering from the bleachers, your body loses more fluid than you may realize.

A good reminder:

If you’re thirsty, you’re already playing catch-up.

💬 What’s your favorite way to stay cool during a Kentucky summer?

📅 THIS DAY IN MEDICAL HISTORY

On this day in 1965, one of the most important advances in modern medicine was taking shape.

Researchers were continuing work that would eventually lead to the widespread development of vaccines that have saved millions of lives worldwide.

It’s easy to forget how different life was before vaccines.

Diseases that are now rare once caused fear in nearly every household.

Parents worried about illnesses that could permanently disable or even kill children.

Entire communities lived with outbreaks that could spread quickly and unpredictably.

Today, many of those diseases are preventable because of decades of research, innovation, and medical breakthroughs.

Sometimes the biggest advances in medicine happen quietly—in laboratories, research centers, and universities—long before the public ever hears about them.

💬 What medical advancement do you think has had the greatest impact on people’s lives?

🌿 OLD HEALTH REMEDIES THAT ACTUALLY WORKED

Not every old-fashioned remedy was just an old wives’ tale.

In fact, one of the most common medicines in your cabinet today traces its roots back hundreds of years.

Early settlers and Native Americans used willow bark tea to help relieve pain and reduce fever.

They didn’t know the science behind it.

They just knew it worked.

Years later, scientists discovered willow bark contains salicin, a compound that eventually led to the development of aspirin.

That’s right.

One of the world’s most commonly used medications started as tree bark.

It makes you wonder…

How many other remedies were passed down through generations because people observed what actually helped?

💬 What’s a remedy your grandparents swore by that you’ve found actually works?

🤯 SOUNDS FAKE BUT IT’S ACTUALLY REAL

Some people sneeze when they look at bright lights. 💡

It’s called the “photic sneeze reflex,” and researchers estimate that up to one-third of people experience it.

You walk outside.
The sun hits your face.
ACHOO. ☀️

Nobody knows exactly why it happens, but it’s believed that some people’s optic nerve and sneeze reflex are wired a little too closely together.

Are you a sunshine sneezer?
