Back-to-school season carries a lot of different feelings.
🩷🤍🩷

Some moms are counting down the minutes until that first school bell rings.
Some are holding back tears in the drop-off line.

Some are sending a baby to school for the very first time.
Some are watching their “baby” walk into school for the very last first day.

Some are SO ready for routine again.
Some already miss the slow mornings and extra time together.

And then there are my teacher mamas. Preparing classrooms, learning new names, loving on everyone else’s babies… while navigating the transition in their own homes, too.

You can be excited.
You can be relieved.
You can be sad.
You can be all three before 7am.

There is no right way to feel about a new season.

So whether you’re packing a lunchbox, standing at the classroom door, celebrating the quiet house, or crying in your car after drop-off…

I hope this school year is gentle with you.

Here’s to new routines, new milestones, and giving ourselves a little grace as we find our footing in this next season.

UnitedHealthcare’s new policy, starting September 1, treats lactation visits as if only the parent is being cared for. That’s inaccurate. Every visit involves assessing and treating the baby too, weight, latch, tongue tie, feeding transfer. Saying otherwise erases half the care actually happening in that room.

This isn’t only about reimbursement. If the largest insurer in the country gets to redefine what counts as patient care for an entire profession, other payers can follow, and IBCLCs won’t be the last providers affected.

“How do I know my baby is actually getting enough milk?”

It’s one of the most common questions I hear from breastfeeding moms, and honestly, one of the hardest to answer with guesswork alone.

That’s where a weighted feed comes in.

By measuring your baby’s weight before and after a feeding on a highly sensitive clinical scale, we can see how much milk they actually transferred during that nursing session.

Sometimes it confirms exactly what we hoped: Baby is doing beautifully.

Sometimes it helps us identify why feedings have been challenging and gives us the information we need to create a plan.

Either way, the goal isn’t to judge your breastfeeding journey.
It’s to replace uncertainty with clarity so you can make confident decisions for you and your baby.
