Last week, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors declared August 2-8 National Health Center Week (NHCW), recognizing the impact that community health centers (CHCs) like HealthWorks have on our community. HealthWorks was honored to accept proclamations from Chairman Jeff McKay and Supervisor Walter Alcorn.

NHCW spotlights the 1,500 CHCs in the United States and their commitment to creating healthcare equity. CHCs provide primary health care services for up to 52 million people in the United States, and 17,168 of those patients call HealthWorks their healthcare home.

HealthWorks CEO Dr. Tonya Adkins addressed the Board of Supervisors and thanked them for their recognition. She also highlighted the tremendous hard work our staff puts in every day to create an environment where patients feel welcomed, comfortable, and their concerns listened to. We are grateful to have the opportunity to partner with Fairfax County and to build a better and healthier community.

In case you missed it, our new mobile health units arrived last week! This exciting new chapter at HealthWorks is thanks to the amazing work done by Mission Mobile Medical, who spent several months brainstorming, designing, and building the units for us.

Last week, these units arrived to the cheers of HealthWorks staff, supporters from Loudoun County Public Schools, and other influential community leaders. Everyone is excited to see the amazing impact these mobile units will have on the community as they bring healthcare to students, families, and staff at Title I schools in our region.

Grapes are a great source of hydration, good for the heart, and contain essential and minerals such as magnesium. Chia seed pudding is packed with protein and fiber to help you stay full longer and give you a midday energy boost. It can also be customized to suit dietary needs, palates, and more.

Hand hygiene is important to keep your kids safe and healthy during the school year. For optimal hand sanitizer use, the Centers for Disease Control recommends using 60% alcohol hand sanitizer and rubbing your hands until they are dry. However, hand sanitizer does not kill all germs, and when available, individuals should wash their hands with warm, soapy water for 20 seconds. They’re here!

HealthWorks for Northern Virginia’s new mobile medical and dental units arrived today at our Leesburg site, greeted by the cheers of our staff, board, and leadership, as well as representatives from Loudoun County Public Schools and other community organizations.

Funded through a grant from the Virginia Dept. of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) , our new mobile units will soon hit the road as part of our new school-based health initiative, increasing access to medical, dental, and behavioral healthcare to students, families and staff at our local public-school systems.
