Established in 1891, Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC) is a 250 bed tertiary care hospital and trauma center located in Lewiston, Maine. CMMC is home to Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute (CMHVI), the three-year Family Medicine Residency Program, and is one of two bases for LifeFlight of Maine (the State of Maine’s only air medicine program owned by Central Maine Healthcare and Eastern Maine Healthcare in Bangor). With its large and growing number of primary care providers, including internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics, NPs and PAs, the hospital also includes more than forty medical and surgical specialties.

Congratulations to June Turcotte on an incredible 30 years with Central Maine Healthcare!

June currently serves as a scheduler in our Endoscopy Department and previously worked as the program administrator. Over three decades, she has been part of countless moments and milestones across our organization.

There’s a lot that goes into keeping our hospitals fed, and our Food and Nutrition Services teams make it happen every day! 💙

During Healthcare Foodservice Workers Week, we’re recognizing the people whose work is an important part of patient care.

They prepare meals that meet individual dietary needs, carefully check that the right food reaches the right patient, keep hospital floors stocked and deliver food to patients receiving treatment. Their attention to detail helps keep patients nourished and comfortable.

Support through one of life’s biggest moments. 💙

For Midwifery Week, we’re recognizing CMMC's certified nurse-midwives: Addison Bryant, CNM; Chris Gillis, CNM; Aleta Joy, CNM, IBCLC; Kristin Moody, CNM; Cathy Heffernan, CNM; and Janice Locke, CNM.

Midwifery care begins well before a baby arrives and continues after birth. Certified nurse-midwives provide prenatal care, support patients through labor and delivery, and help with postpartum recovery. Their role also includes routine gynecologic care and family planning.

Along the way, they get to know their patients, answer questions and talk through care options so patients can make decisions that feel right for them.

Thank you, Addison, Chris, Aleta, Kristin, Cathy, and Janice for caring for the women and families in our community.

You may know Dr. Dennis Sullivan for his work as a CMH orthopedic surgeon, but his care also extends to the hockey rink. 🏒

Dr. Sullivan served as team physician for the U.S. Under-17 Men’s Select Team at the Four Nations Tournament in the Czech Republic, helping young athletes stay healthy and ready to compete. Team USA captured the championship with a 5–4 shootout victory!

Here at home, Dr. Sullivan helps patients manage orthopedic injuries and get back to the activities that matter to them, whether that’s playing a sport, taking a walk or keeping up with their grandchildren. 💙

A warm hello. Directions when someone isn’t sure where to go. A familiar face that helps people feel a little more at ease.

As a CMMC greeter, Karla welcomes patients, visitors and team members with kindness each day. She takes the time to build connections, answer questions and make sure people feel cared for as soon as they walk through the door.

Karla also seems to know just about everything and everyone, and if she doesn’t have the answer, she’ll help you find it!

For 36 years, Dr. David Baker watched generations of central Maine children grow up. He cared for them as newborns, guided families through illnesses and milestones, and later welcomed many of those same patients back as parents with children of their own.

Last week, colleagues filled the room to celebrate the pediatrician who joined CMMC right out of residency in 1990 and became a trusted part of so many local families.

Dr. Baker built his career on steady guidance, genuine kindness and a deep commitment to his patients. His retirement closes a remarkable chapter, but the care and confidence he gave families will remain throughout our community.

Bonita Gagne is a CMH SuperSTAR! ⭐

When things are at their hardest, Bonita Gagne is the person her coworkers know they can call.

As a patient access analyst, Bonita’s work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact reaches across Central Maine Healthcare. During some of our organization’s most difficult moments, she has stepped in without hesitation, bringing calm, knowledge and compassion when they were needed most.

Her colleague Sarah Shaw describes Bonita as someone who finds solutions to complex problems and always chooses the right way, even when it isn’t the easy way.

Bonita’s dedication to her coworkers and the people we serve is exactly what it means to be a SuperSTAR.

A first step after surgery. Getting dressed independently again. Finding the words that wouldn’t come. Building the strength and confidence to get back home. 💙

Those moments don’t happen all at once. They happen one goal, one session and sometimes one hard-earned victory at a time, with our rehabilitation teams there every step of the way.

During Rehab Week, we’re celebrating the physical, occupational and speech therapists, therapy assistants and support staff across Central Maine Healthcare who help our patients regain independence and get back to the lives they love.
