Handwriting starts long before a child picks up a pencil.

During Kindergarten Camp we worked on:

✏️ Shoulder strength
✏️ Wrist stability
✏️ Fine motor skills
✏️ Letter formation
✏️ Visual-motor coordination

Every activity looked like play, but every activity had a purpose.

Some families have more choices than others when it comes to getting pediatric therapy.

This isn't because one child deserves care more than another. It's because reimbursement affects which services some clinics are able to offer and how many Medicaid patients they can sustainably serve.

The additional August Medicaid cut was stopped, and that's good news. But Kentucky's pediatric therapy reimbursement still hasn't kept pace with the rising cost of providing care.

Every Kentucky child deserves timely access to occupational, physical, and speech therapy—regardless of their insurance.

Today brought some encouraging news for many Kentuckians.

The planned additional 4% Medicaid reimbursement reduction has been reversed. That is a meaningful step, and I'm grateful to everyone who spoke up on behalf of Kentucky's children, those with disabilities and the providers who serve them.

But our work isn't finished.

Even without that additional cut, reimbursement rates still have not kept pace with inflation or the rising costs of providing pediatric therapy. Clinics across Kentucky continue to face long waitlists, staffing challenges, and increasing financial pressure.

This series isn't about politics. It's about helping people understand why access to therapy is becoming harder for so many families—and why these conversations matter.
