Before your child gets out of bed in the morning, take 10 seconds to look for three things:
👄 Dry or chapped lips
👁️ Dark circles under their eyes
💧 Drool on their pillow
Each one is a sign their mouth was open during sleep, their sleep was disrupted, or both.
If none of these show up, their sleep is likely going well. If one or more shows up regularly, it's worth getting their airway and jaw development evaluated. These signs often trace back to how their jaws and airway are developing, not just how they slept last night.

Nighttime breathing starts with a clear nose. Here's a simple routine by @ toothpillow_official to try before bed:

A non-pharmaceutical nasal spray in both nostrils
Blow the nose, one side at a time, to clear out mucus
Quick check: mouth closed, finger over one nostril, breathe in and out. Switch sides.

If air moves through clearly on both sides, you're set.
Small habit. Big impact on how well they sleep.

Poor sleep in kids doesn't always look like tiredness.

It can show up as trouble focusing, mood swings, bedwetting, restless nights, or mouth breathing, and most parents don't realize these are connected to how their child is breathing at night.

If your child is struggling in school, the problem might not be in the classroom. It might be in their bedroom.

Poor sleep makes it harder for kids to focus, retain information, and regulate emotions. What looks like ADHD, laziness, or ""not trying hard enough"" is often a brain running on empty.
And the root cause is usually overlooked: a restricted airway. Snoring, mouth breathing, and grinding can fragment sleep so much that even a full night in bed isn't real rest.

The good news? It's treatable, and the earlier, the better.
