The Culinary Passport group traveled to the Caribbean this month, and the dining room was transformed to match. Jordan and Ellie brought the vision to life with colorful decorations that had residents stopping throughout the day to share how impressed they were. On the menu: Caribbean jerk chicken kabobs, Caribbean rice with peas, fried plantains, pineapple upside down cake and tropical rum punch.

Lauren, Marsha, Janis and Debbie settled in for an afternoon of coloring pages. Sometimes all you need are colored pencils and some good conversation to make a day feel special.

Members of our community’s cooking club recently made these colorful and sweet fruit pizzas. Blueberries and strawberries were absolutely delicious as toppings.

The origin of the saying, “the dog days of summer,” comes from ancient Rome, when astronomers noticed the star Sirius- otherwise known as the Dog Star- would rise along with the sun. While this little tidbit is interesting, I think we can agree that attending a party where all the foods have dog-pun names is clearly the superior take on the subject. Welcome to the Dog Days of Summer Party. Can I interest you in a Pup-cake? Perhaps some Paw-tato salad?

Residents enjoyed a Dirty Soda Bar, which is a customized drink station for creating fun beverages. Plain soda got a major glow-up, with bespoke drink combos like The Pink Fizz, S’mores, The Vintage, The Cherry Twist and The Islander. Reviews are in, and it was a hit.

We have a party every month to celebrate the birthdays of community guests and residents. What were we to do with no June birthdays? Have a party anyway, of course. We took advantage of the cooler summer day and enjoyed cake on the patio.
